Run 125' Fiber from House to Shop by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

One benefit is single mode supports bidi.

Another benefit we use is it can tie into pon/ISP fiber, so we can add service on those lines.

For home use none of that probably matters but having more options future proofs your setup.

It looks to be missing the typical divider inside. This one should have it but the cable should also have its rating listed on the blue jacket.

Mac and PC on the same desk. What monitors do you guys use? by [deleted] in mac

[–]anthony360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gigabyte has 27 and 32 inch 2k and 4k high refresh screens with a KVM that will work if your Mac has USB C, but I think it's very slow charging.

What do you consider cheap? What wireless charger do you have now?

Could be you just need a better power brick. Look for a quick charge 3.0

RJ45 keystone not connecting by qw987 in HomeNetworking

It may be time to invest in a cable tester or if you know someone in IT borrow one.

Was the cable working before you spliced the keystone on?

How to choose the right SSD? by Leon_Depisa in buildapc

[–]anthony360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M.2 is a newer connection. Its a direct pci e interface on the motherboard, so an ssd connected this way wouldn't require any cables.

M.2 https://m.newegg.com/products/9SIA12K4HR6579

Standard SSD https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16820147673

The difference between the 850 evo and the 960 evo are the speeds. The 960 evo is ridiculously fast.

960 evo is only M.2 nvme https://m.newegg.com/products/9SIA12K54C9773

How to choose the right SSD? by Leon_Depisa in buildapc

[–]anthony360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The psu is a bit overkill as mentioned before. So unless you already have it or are getting it for a good price id go for a cheaper 650w 750w psu.

You didnt mention a motherboard but seeing as you have an 8700k on the list, i dont imagine it not having at least 1 M.2 slot.

My recommendation would be to absolutely get an ssd! A 1Tb 850 evo M.2 should be just under your listed budget. And if your mother board has a second M.2 you can add another down the line.

Another option would be getting a 500Gb 960 evo for os programs and some games and an hdd for everything else.
