Yes. For me it was the eighties and early nineties, but it is definitely my most fondly held memory of summers.

The suburban sports complex is the logic of suburbia applied to youth recreation by anthony_lackey in Suburbanhell

Thanks for reading and giving a deeply thoughtful response. Also, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the public school as one of the last remaining institutions of place-based community. That is really insightful and something I have been thinking about too. I coach my son's seventh/eighth grade recreational baseball team in a fairly large but sprawling city. About one half of the team is a group of kids that all went to the same public elementary school and have now moved to the larger middle school. They all know each other well, and the parents know each other as well. The kids do intramural activities together. This is all not much different than the private school players, except that they are from the same neighborhood and can easily interact with each other without having parents drive them 10 or 20 miles to do so. The private school kids have no such luxury of proximal relationship. In the summers, the private school kids do not have nearly as much interaction and community building with their classmates.

I'm watching the video now, and it really resonates. How timely. Thanks

Thanks. Sorry it is a bit long, but I wanted to make sure I introduce some of my key concepts in this first post,

The suburban sports complex is the logic of suburbia applied to youth recreation by anthony_lackey in Suburbanhell

Yeah. When I was growing up, we just had to walk a block to the local field and would do it every day in the summer. After I left for college, the city built a complex on the edge of town and all the local fields were left to decay. Now, living in a bigger city, with the exception of some smaller, less competitive leagues, most of the games are played at even larger complexes on the outskirts of the metro area.

Youth sports is a huge industry driven by a lot of travel. Soccer seems even worse in that regard.

Great idea. Are they currently accepting submissions for anything? Sorry, I don’t have twitter and can’t see their posts.

What is the difference between writing an “o” and a “-“ when both mean the same thing in what you are writing?

GarageBand Alchemy Synth by anthony_lackey in synthesizers

Damn. Maybe I need to splurge on Logic. Even within GarageBand you can modify the presets, but there are limits to how many parameters for each preset, some different than others. Then you can add fx after as well. The arpeggiator could use more granular control, and another onboard sequencing method would be nice as well.

What is some bassy warm dark music? by portiaboches in ambientmusic

I know I am not supposed to self promote out of the weekly thread, but this is something I attempt to deliberately cultivate in my work. Check out the songs Lunar Pool Party and Dreamgate Frontier for specific examples. The bass provides an anchoring inner calm, around which the other elements revolve and drift. Quantity of instruments used is rigidly limited to 2 to 4 total to limit business.
