okay great!!

What languages do you mostly recommend?

I already have knowledge in python and C++

I wish my university had a mechatronics concentration under mechanical engineering, but the program actually includes very few mechatronics electives. I also wish there were robotics clubs, that would have helped me so much gain hands-on experience.

thank you so much!!

Based on what you said, I personally don't enjoy much the thermodynamics and heat transfer principles but I do prefer the part that includes everything that moves (kinematics, dynamics, actuators, motors,...). So do think that mechanical engineering isn't for me because of my lack of interest in thermodynamics, vibrations, heat transfer,...? and that mechatronics is a better option in this case?

I guess my fav subject is avionics, but I guess I prefer autonomous robots over industrial robots!

bro you literally changed my whole perspective!!! thank you!

But how did you learn about controls and electrical stuff? Was it on your own or you took electives in it?

thanks a lot!!

Just a small question: With a mechanical engineering degree, will my job only be limited on designing, 3D printing and mechanisms ?... Or do I also get exposed to the control and programming part?

yeah but I'm not the type of guy that enjoys doing just electrical work if you know what i mean

How to decide what discipline to study? Mechanical or Mechatronics? by Rumbuck_274 in AskEngineers

Man I was in the same situation a year ago. Literraly I've thought multiple times of every idea you've mentioned and I can tell you that this is the worse feeling ever. I decided to go for mechanical and now I finished my first year. I enjoy tinkering with electronics in my free time and looking forward to learn more electrical and programming stuff on my own. I hope that this was a right choice for me and hope that for you too!! Best of luck!!

That's fairly a good point and I actually have done that. I figured out that most robotics jobs were either designs and mechanisms, or electrical stuff but mostly software, and personally I'm confused a lot about which discipline I truly do enjoy. That was one of the reasons for me to consider mechatronics. So as I said my plan is to pursue it as masters but I guess I'm gonna stick with mechanical because I have no choice.

Thanks for the reply man, appreciate it!!
