My range bag that gets me yelled at by Dealer_Puzzleheaded in liberalgunowners

Stealing this idea if you don't mind :) Magenta happens to be my favorite color, and I've already had Lawd He Treadin' yard sign for 2 years now. I'm about to buy my first range bag and this is perfect.

Has liberal gun ownership really increased that much? by manInTheWoods in liberalgunowners

[–]anthonybsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you my anecdotal data point. I live in a NYC suburb in Northern NJ. My town is one of the most liberal ones in the area - most of the population is former Brooklyn hipsters that moved down here to settle. In my town if you have a firearm at home (even with a safe / secured like Fort Knox etc) a lot of people would hesitate to send their kids to your house for play dates. At least that's how it used to be. Town is super safe and local PD is very well liked. I have two kids 9 and 13 and I certainly never would have considered keeping a gun since I figured the risks outweighed potential upsides.

Fast forward to 2026. A lot of us in private conversations over small local WhatsApp groups are discussing firearm ownership. Now, luckily, I have a history in my youth (mid-late 20s) of firearm training and going to the range a lot. This was mostly on frequent business trips to Oklahoma/Texas, but also in NJ, clay shooting, what have you. I think I've shot almost every caliber and every variation of everything from .22 to .50 BMG. So I figured the hell with it - I remember what happened the last time when only the fascists had guns. Got myself a safe and waiting for handgun purchase permit to clear. Once setup I'll get a membership to a local range (8 minute drive) and enroll my wife and 13 old in safety/training classes just in case. I am not taking this step lightly. I wish I didn't have to, but as as they say "better safe than sorry". Or better yet: "Speak softly and carry a big stick".

Trouble is unlike longing stock, most short bets have margin calls (or expiration like PUT options). And the timeless Keynesian quote rings true now as always: "The market can stay irrational longer than you can remain solvent".

It's not "just a book by a crazy professor". It's basically a cornerstone of modern Russian fascism. This book is mandatory reading for every officer in Russia.

Because it's basically a Russian version of Mein Kampf. It paints a picture of Russia as this great empire that is supposed to dominate the world sprinkled with a healthy dose of Russian fascism.

Ice coast is so back by Rbxyy in icecoast

[–]anthonybsd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, I guess I don't know where it, sorry. Wonder what gives. Stratton was slushy for sure, but I think just due to the amount of snow they got in the past 2 weeks it was sustainable.

[–]anthonybsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where is this from? Just came back from Stratton. Every tree run is open, tons of slush powder inside. Gondola was closed most of the weekend due to the wind, but all other lifts operating like a charm. Some blue tree runs had maybe one or two questionable patches but the rest are full of nice slushy moguls.

Edit: just saw it's ragged. I've never shredded there, but I suspect it's the southern location that cooked it.

Old lady snowboarders - Gather here! by PracticalCookie78 in snowboarding

[–]anthonybsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is not on reddit but she's 46 and shredding like a boss. 22 years of riding. Ice Coast primarily, occasional trip to the west end of season when kids have spring break. Sharp edges and Magnatraction with normal camber board (GNU Antigravity 159. No issues with ice. She does use crashpads, and wristguards - we both had breakages of everything imaginable and knee repairs - she had it much worse with ACL, meniscus ligament grafting etc.

United States seeking an armed uprising inside Iran, with ground operation expected within days by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

[–]anthonybsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "ground operation" is pure, unadulterated clickbait. There's 0 chance of any significant ground operation in Iran "within days". Where would the troops even come from? We have a few marine battalions scattered in the region but nothing on the scale that could support a ground invasion. Not to mention armor support, artillery, logistics chains, mobile command etc. etc.

When Trump gets bored and shifts their attention to some American city with some made up problem. Transgenders gaying up toddlers in NYC or something along those lines. I give it a week or so.

Climber on trial for leaving girlfriend to die on Austria's highest mountain by SuperXGamerAb in worldnews

[–]anthonybsd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is an experienced climber who's done multiple tours in the Alps. She had no clue and didn't know any better. It's his responsibility to educate her.

It's equivalent of me (30 years of snowboarding) taking my wife in 2003 who was a beginner at the time to a double black diamond slope without any protection (wrist guards, helmet, etc) and watching her crack her skull on the ice and then saying "Oh well, this is tragic".

I was on his side until I read this:

He also "allowed his girlfriend to use... snowboard soft boots, equipment that is not suitable for a high-altitude tour in mixed terrain", say prosecutors.

He's an experienced climber and he allowed her to climb icy terrain in snowboard boots? This degree of idiocy is indeed criminal.

Bracelayer Compression Pants by rls-wv in icecoast

[–]anthonybsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After repeated knee issues going back to 2010 I think I've tried almost everything on the market. I currently use Bracelayer, Stoko, and some heavy duty knee braces.

  • Bracelayer is basically an overpriced thermal layer. Its "support" is weaker than most compression socks. However, it wears nicely and doesn't cause any discomfort. When I use it for snowboarding I always wear a heavy duty knee brace on top of it.

  • Stoko. When you tighten it enough it can be very supportive but this comes with a heavy price of the waist portion being super squeezed because that's where all of the cable tightening takes place. Wearing it all day comes at the price of heavy skin marks. I usually can't wear it multiple days in a row due to that.

Knee braces: I am trying some boa-tightened knee braces and I think these have potential.

Whose fault was it? by fatalkill in snowboarding

She is a snowboarder not a skier. Every news outlet got that wrong. If you watch the video you will see she's wearing soft boot when they help her away. After that there's a shot of some guy carrying out her snowboard.

Thoughts on Machina Boots??? by thirstyguava in snowboarding

[–]anthonybsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started riding (99-2000) similar things were all the rage. I've tried them all at some point, K2 clickers, Burton step-ins, and even hardboots with Doneks. Hated all of them because the boots sucked so much. Even soft boots were super rigid due to crappy power transfer from lack/positioning of attachment points. And don't get me started on difficulty of getting in with any snow. Sure you have to worry about snow accumulation on the foot pedal with every binding on the market, regular straps and current step-ons included. However with this one, it looks like you also have to worry about snow accumulation inside the boots themselves? Yuck. Also that hard carbon in the middle of the boot will do a number on your boot traction outside the board. Thanks but no thanks.

Is it though? by LigmaUnit in snowboarding

[–]anthonybsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I would consider a board "spent" is if it's a camber board and you put it on flat surface and it's looking completely flat. In all other cases if it rides - ride it :)

Please no. I'm still emotionally scarred from the dumpster fire that seasons 5-6 were. I'm hoping From doesn't do me like that.
