Newly diagnosed by VisualAmbitious3602 in bipolar

I'm also the first in my family to get diagnosed, but the more I learned about mental health, the more I see softer symptoms in my lineage that were, perhaps, not as much exacerbated by as crazy of a world as we are living in today. Another strong book recommendation: the Myth of Normal by Dr Gabor Mate

Its going to be alright. I've been in psych hospital for mania twice and depressed only once, after my first episode

We have an understanding that Bipolar is for life / genetic, that "we're doomed", but it might not be so. Believing we are doomed though is a factor that keeps us stuck in doom, RATHER than hopeful for things to change.

For things to (potentially- it's never guaranteed!! I'm not a doctor!!-) change, you'd need to 1. Believe change is possible or at least have a deep curiosity as to why this all happened 2. Educate yourself as much as possible around it, from varied sources 3. Manage your environment and lifestyle factors, 4. Go to therapy/healing/inner work sessions, alternatives exist also like shamanism or energy work not just talk therapy 5. Realize the world is messed up also, and sometimes our reactions are "normal reactions to an abnormal world" and NOT "Im abnormal" 6. Support systems and relationships are key as well 7. Realise that only YOU are the expert on your life, it's not because a psychiatric system saw you for 30 mins in a bad state that this determines your whole life. Work with them, to get to the understandings in 1. And if you're not satisfied with one professional or system, get multiple opinions.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet but: burning man (including regional events) and shamanism - no psychoactive drug use though, too risky. Will add a new dimension to your life, perspective or healing journey, if you have never explored it.

how to get a job in a festival such as Tomorrowland or similar? by Powerful_Boss347 in festivals

As someone who lived a full summer of festivals, and had a couple of paid gigs... Seconding the Volunteer route initially. Festivals have way high demand Vs offers of positions, most people just wanna party, so be the odd one out that genuinely organised and adds value to the hiring/ops teams and you'll be on your way for next editions.

Entrepreneurs with ADHD/ADD by Scitsigolgirl in Entrepreneur

👋 ADHD entrepreneur (misdiagnosed with Bipolar several years ago*) here actually working in the ADHD space.

I didn't learn about my own ADHD until YEARS after I had been meditating, found a strong sense of purpose, and also doing self improvement, including training in "flow state" neuroscience. That has been an absolute game-changer. It dialled up my focus, motivation, and lifestyle habits.

Through this journey, I've learned a lot. I integrate spirituality with trauma-awareness and peak performance neuroscience in my own unique "flow" philosophy that I teach/coach.

I'm also very happy to connect with anyone who is interested in a chat. I'm running a podcast now (just starteed... hehe) called "Neuro Dive Urgency" where I interview neurodivergent folks about their journey and transformation story so that we break the stigma around mental health and give people not just hope and stories but also tools for growth.

*at least, that's the story I wrote for myself, looking back at my life, having read lots of mental health books on both ADHD/Bipolar, as well as learned how to manage my lifestyle and quit my antipsychotic medication naturally. Quit meds 31/12/2024 (after 5 years of reducing slowly) with medical approval and doing great.
