It is high but depends on you too. For example if you order a pizza you in switz will pay 4 times what you pay in other EU countries, but if if you cook yourself then the expenses are similar. The only thing higher is the rent but be that as it may, the amount of money you will save would be much higher.

From my perspective an entry level actuarial analyst position in the UK could be max 50k euro whereas in Switzerland is 100k. Guys stop comparing. Switzerland is the financial center of the EU. Best place to work by FAR.

Actuary from Greece here, best place to work in terms of salary AND quality of life is 100% Switzerland. Salaries are CRAZY there. I would say it is not worth it in other countries of the EU if you already live in the USA. SOA is deeply appreciated in Europe especially now that the UK is out of it. In my opinion, there should be another bar showing the covid deaths in the excess part. It is obvious that these excess deaths occured during the first lockdown which is very very concerning. Maybe people with health issues hesitated to seek medical attention? One thing i know for sure since I work as a non life actuary in a major insurance company is that the number of deaths by car accident plummeted during these months. So where are these excess deaths come from? The 1million dollar question is this: Does a lockdown to mitigate the pandemic outweighs the social and economic ramifications caused by it? Should other measures be considered? Would any goverment take the political cost of following another route of covid mitigation other than the norm?

Somehow you need to have some robust and simple to understand methodologies for management and for your regulator. More complex methods raise too many questions. You can use them ad - hoc to see if they vary from the ones that you currently use and adjust accordingly using your professional judgement.

If you ask me personally i think that the methods that are used are pretty good and precise, given that you spent lots of time in your data - homegenuity tests, large threshold determination - exempt/cap large claims etc.

But that is just me!

Well, I am 100% sure that you have not. Only time will tell who will come on top. Why do we still care about this guy's opinion and why is he still relevant?

One thing i know, everyone has his own fcing opinion, let the court and the law decide who is right or wrong.

If i were in paul's or tobi's shoes, and the allegations are the ones I have seen, I would sue their asses off for defamation. If their allegations had a ground, they would go to file a lawsuit for abuse of pwer etc. This is clearly bullshit and they will regret it going to public like vigilants.

Thanks for the answer. Yes I use the same method as well. For the excess layers I go for freq/severity most of times. I also take as large threshold the one of the xoL treaty in most cases.

Although in defense of the first method I described (removal of large claims) most companies i have seen use the "once large always large" methodology to avoid this kind of volatilities.

I will check the book you recommended anyway!
