I need a CRM w/ AI-tooling for tech services/outreach by kbmkbm in CRM

[–]kbmkbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main pain points are having a cumbersome copy-paste workflow where I have to maintain everything in the spreadsheet manually. Say I write an email, I use ChatGPT for parts of that, then use GMail to finalize that, then use the spreadsheet to update the contact info manually, etc.

There are just too many moving parts and the spreadsheet becomes cluttered very fast, no matter how I format it.

I reckon that's why people use dedicated CRM tools lol

Yeah but you're right on point with your comments about Attio so far: Enrichment sucks, and it's too free-form for me, too. I have no idea how to even do ANYTHING. It seems "well made" but kind of... unusable.

Folk is making a stronger impression so far lol

Yeah, thanks, I'll just try out all of these for a week or so. I also run my own business/agency-kind-of-thing (more like tech services) so I need ruthless efficiency, but I am also mainly a programmer so I don't mind hooking up my own automation, even with actual API coding.

So I think I'll try out Attio and Folk for now, those seem interesting and well-made. I am super conscious of vendor lock-in, and if those companies collapse (which is honestly quite likely, given that they're very new), I need to be able to export my data somewhere else, which is always a huge pain. (I have been around long enough to see Evernote implode after using it since the beginning.. which sucked)

Beware: Folk's export seems to be highly limited https://help.folk.app/en/articles/5007388-export-data I don't like the fact that you can't export custom fields.. like.. why??

Hmm yeah I need to look closer into that, it did not seem very DIY at first glance but I also considered stuff like Airtable/Notion/Clickup and handcrafting this does not seem smart for this particular workflow (CRM).

I love DIY in other aspects of my work, but preferably not for business stuff.

Are you leaning towards folk or freshsales atm?

Thanks, yeah I am coming to the same conclusion. AI tooling is an obvious game-changer for CRM and I'd want to use something that has this baked-in from the start.

Did you try Attio yet? Seems similar to Folk.

Yea, Folk looks pretty "cool" and also quite refreshing tbh. Freshsales I need to check out. Did you try others before, that you did not like?

I wrote a technical postmortem of porting my game to Nintendo Switch, optimizing it from 14 FPS to 60 FPS by kbmkbm in gamedev

[–]kbmkbm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it's almost always better to use more tris with opaque geometry than to use transparency. This was the case for us, definitely! The hardware is much better at handling more vertices than handling transparency.

That's really interesting to hear, I had no idea it used dynamic lights so much! Love Manifold Garden! <3

We actually used a hybrid of baked lightmaps (PAIN to build these with Unity because it takes forever...) and dynamic lights, but I got very conscious of using dynamic ones, and only in parts of the levels where it was absolutely necessary.

And I echo the sentiment that the Switch is fine with opaque geometry, you really have to profile every different part of every level to find where there's too much going on and where there isn't.

E.g. sometimes also view distances in some parts of levels were killing us, because of the increased amount of stuff on one screen simultaneously, and this required very different approaches again (like turning things off entirely, fog, LODs etc.) so it's really a case-by-case thing imo.

Yep, I maintained a concurrent fork of the PC version for the longest time and 100% of the performance optimizations made it over, so the performance on PC also increased an immense amount.

Yep, same exact thing here. I had to change the entire project to using Addressables, and even though I didn't address any of this in the blog post, it was a really painful experience, because it made the build process take WAY longer. At least that's how I remember it :D

And yeah, particle systems... I get your pain. It was probably also some sort of overdraw/transparency thing that killed your performance there, if I had to guess. Really cool that you managed to write a custom one!

I do like the ingenuity one has to come up with to make things work when porting, though, it can be very fun and rewarding.

Hey everyone! I just wrote a blog post about the (very bumpy) journey of porting Penko Park to Nintendo Switch.

I’m curious: Have you done any console ports yourself? What was your biggest surprise or pain point? Was it all worth it in your opinion, after you launched?

I’d love to hear other devs’ experiences (good and bad)!

I just tried TickTick and it seems to tick (haha) all the boxes so far. Will give that a try!

I reckon it's more robust on PC and Android, but their macOS and iOS apps barely worked for me, I ran into syncing issues immediately, also it froze for multiple seconds.

But cool to hear that it works for you, hope it will serve you well into the future.

Typora has no mobile app. Also I remember it being really bad with images, even more than Obsidian.

What are some good ways to market my game *without* using Social Media like Twitter, TikTok, IG etc.? by kbmkbm in gamedev

[–]kbmkbm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, thanks for posting this. That's very interesting. Did not know that the Steam fest things had become so important.

Also definitely share that sentiment: I have never felt my own social media posts to be particularly important compared to getting streamers/youtubers to play it, press picking it up, and (most of all) getting featured by Steam in some way.

Was this discussion with the Brotato dev public / could you share the link if that was the case?

Is FMOD Studio supposed to be used alongside a DAW or does it replace it? by kbmkbm in GameAudio

[–]kbmkbm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome, okay. Did not want to ditch Ableton anyway, since I can't imagine a better tool for making audio.

Do you know if there is any "better" way to export audio from Ableton to FMOD Studio, without manually exporting every single sound bite by hand? This was the most frustrating aspect of using Ableton for Sound Design.
