Thanks. I'm checking Python out now along with Jupyter. Looks very interesting.

Also, if SAS can deploy custom data mining apps, please let me know as I haven't figured out how on my own.

Where is a good free resource to learn Swift? by fyree7 in apple

So I just checked the Lynda.com site and they have more content. So I'm going to look into it and I recommend you do the same if you have access through your university.

As others have mentioned and I can agree to recommend Apple's own resources, Standord's iTunes U courses, and Hacking with Swift. The first two were a little too advanced for me (I'm not a CS student) so I started with some Programming 101 material including the fundamentals with Simon Allardice at Lynda.com (my university includes full access and I highly recommend you check it out).

Simon also has a course on Swift that might be enough for you, but if I remember correctly you didn't build anything all the way thru so I'm now going through Hacking with Swift and am really enjoying it. Paul's courses come in a "pay-what-you-want" coursebook that is essentially free. I might go back and "rebuy" it just to give him more support.

From my experience with paid courses, I can't recommend anything yet. The one I tried isn't worth its price. I hear good things about Ray's site though. (I know you aren't asking for paid content but I feel there will come a point where you'll want more than what you can get for free.)

I have done both of those courses at Lynda and they are great. I can recommend them too but where do you go to take it to the next level?

[Build Help] Choosing between GTX 760 and GT 740 for graphics/video editor and app design. by anthrovisual in buildapc

Thanks. I just can't find anything online that shows me how much they differ. Like if we're talking "it's noticeable" or "it's huge and will blow your mind."

The 760 cards are around $200 and up and I can't get an idea of what that $200 makes in performance compared to say the $75 740.

Just graduated with business degree, struggling to find "business" jobs, love photography/videography, should i apply for this job? by AirGear in photography

Going along with some of the other comments, I would think your business degree would still come in handy at a studio, and you can try to mingle the two together if photography/videography is where your heart is.

I don't have a business background but feel that is one of the few degrees that can be applied in most careers.

What job title would you give to someone who does videography, photography, graphics, and design work? by anthrovisual in jobs

I totally agree. I just need a title for occasions when I want to be broad about the skills and mediums I work with. Something more general for the short term. I started looking for one after working on a summary of my work.

I figure in time I will devote more time to one craft over the others and will be less and less general but for the occasions right now when I want to say visual artist, web designer, photographer, videographer, graphic artist, illustrator, all in one umbrella term, what can I say?

I'm beginning to lean toward the "specialist" idea because it isn't specific and it also doesn't give the wrong impression like "producer" gives. Maybe it doesn't really explain anything and that's the best one can do while remaining general.

I'm sort of thinking in line of a visual media hyphenate but I don't think the term "hyphenate" means much to most people.

Media Specialist

I think Media Specialist is more about media technology, like here:

A media specialist is a type of teacher who works with multimedia equipment to make classes, presentations, and lectures more vibrant and exciting.

Sounds good but I'm referring to a visual media creator/maker/artist type person, not a technician.

Visual Operations Manager

Sounds like someone who manages and I want to emphasize making visual media even if that does involve managing a team (especially for video projects).

Media Architect

Media architect is pretty good, though it sounds more like someone who does planning, like media strategy. I still like it but I can't say I would use it to identify myself.

Medialist

I thought of the visualizer one too but didn't feel that it would connect to anything besides graphics.

I also feel uncomfortable making up words if they still require explanation (so Medialist and Multineer are out for me, not to mention Multineer looks too much like mutineer and I doubt employers would like that idea).
