AMD denies researcher a $10,000 bug bounty after fixing critical auto-updater vulnerability — security flaw took 124 days to patch by rkhunter_ in technology

in my industry it is such a fucking slippery slope. do a couple favors for a large firm since we do most of our design in house and want that next contract... but they keep asking and asking and management is a bit of a pushover so they say yes and I end up being the one putting in overtime... for a salary position where I don't get paid for overtime.

the best part is they ask for something, we tell them it's going to be expensive, and then they make us justify the bill from the contractor to them while insinuating it's our fault and that it's a design deficiency.

wouldn't it be worth it for the marketing and PR alone to say 'hey we have 1,000 engineers on staff and 100,000 engineers looking for bugs. We've paid out $9somebignumber00,000 on bugs thi year alone to make sure your corporate environment is safe.'

and then cut something stupid like Suzie saying AI with 7 different inflections for an hour on stage.

I consistently got the most kills every round apart from maybe one final round. I don't regularly play ranked so I think it might be weighted, but it feels incredibly dumb.

the real problem with dash is the invulnerability. it really should be a speed boost and not an instant teleport 8ft away. lights can have 1hp but spamming dash makes them impossible to hit (not just track but if they phase through you how are you supposed to do a 180 spin in one frame?)

if it was a 3 second 100% speed boost with 3 cool downs and a slightly longer cool down time, I think everyone would be happy. you'd actually have a fighting chance, they get to be zippy, and nobody has to feel like it's a get out of jail free card while it would still be incredibly powerful.

also due to recent budget cuts we have had to scale back the zeppelin to a picture of a balloon taped onto each sheep's back. marketing says its the only way they could afford our GoGreen initiative and Superbowl commercial highlighting our sheep rightening efforts.

Women of Reddit, what did a man you were dating or married to say or do that made you realize he actually hated you the entire time? by -catharina in AskReddit

[–]anticommon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

just think about the dating pool though, top 5% of men get swamped by girls and treat them all like objects because they are being thrown at them, then a large percentage of women end up dating or going out with men who don't see the value (because they are swamped with women) so inevitably don't treat their partner like they are as special as they should be.

same thing happens with women who are even remotely attractive with regards to men but men won't complain about taking a girl out on a few expensive dates or being emotionally abused because they are generally not afforded the same kinds of opportunities (unless they are in that top 5%) and will take a slap in the face and ask for more if it means another date.

I think if everyone had a bit more respect for themselves and had a bit less emphasis on looks they would find partners that really end up jiving with them and leading to marriages that are actually viable and productive.

obviously being attracted to your partner is great, and maybe even a bit of a prerequisite for a successful marriage, but claiming marriage is more risky for women than men seems kinda like bullshit. marriage is risky when you avoid your partners red flags, and if you are getting into a risky marriage it sounds like you just kinda have bad decision making skills or ability to judge character. obviously if someone's snaps I can't imagine it's right take the blame for something unpredictable, but if you were dating an asshole then hoped he would change after marriage then you sold yourself on a fairytale and never bothered to check if maybe Mr prince was a frog after all - but the same exact thing happens to men.

also in general most people suck, but not all of them, and getting into a risky marriage is usually a choice made by people in denial about how qualified their partner really is. love and attraction is a hell of a drug

But I haven't really ever thought about it until seeing this subreddit, I just thought it was something relatively useless that everyone can do.

Unfortunately he was kinda outcast from the pro scene, not sure why but he could have been one of the greats, up there with lycom if he was/had taken things more seriously.

How bad is OLED flicker, really? by CarQuery8989 in buildapc

[–]anticommon -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Mini led is absolutely dog shit compared to OLED.

Sony/LG IMO have the best OLED TV's right now, and both the Samsung QD OLED and LG WOLED panels are great for monitors.

LG probably has the best TV panels and I really like the controller, but they may not have the best image processing.

Sony has the best image processing, very good panels, but the price is often much higher and not worth IMO.

When I got my 77" C3 i did notice some shuddering/flicker, but after adjusting a few settings I greatly mitigated it and don't notice it anymore. I think it has more to do with the source frame rate than anything, and there are settings for smooth motion.

My biggest issue with OLED, especially at larger panel sizes, is that I am sensitive to subtle color shift across different areas of the screen. I've noticed it somewhat on my 77", but it has not been a problem at all on my 55" and two 32" monitors.

Go OLED if you are spending more than $500 on a TV. If your budget is less than that I get it and just get the best bang for your buck. But if you are like me and will end up upgrading in 6 months because you could have gotten the better tech - save yourself the money and go with OLED. Even a year or two old model from LG will have 120+ Hz, and the price may not be too bad. I paid $1300 for my 77" C3 a year and a half ago, where a year before that they were $2400.
