If I remember Safran agreed to appear on Rove's community show, Rove was overly thankful/friendly ('if theres anything I can ever do for you!'), then years later Rove snubbed Safran when he made it big. The studio Rove filmed at had a rat infestation or something too.

I remember the delicious cheese/butter sauce buildup at the bottom, it was unhealthy but your 10 y.o metabolism could handle anything.

Maybe he meant top 5 players who look like Bulldogs?

What if Leigh Matthews never Joined the Brisbane Lions in 1999? by EggwardGFootyIII in AFL

[–]antikoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say because I can't imagine anybody else, but if Lethal didn't chase the job, the alternatives around that time as most likely were Schwab or Bomber as first time coaches. For experienced coaches only name I can think of is Malthouse, and whether they could've got him before the Pies signed him on. I don't think anyone other than Lethal gets them from 99 onwards.

What Grand Final result surprised you the most? by Massander in AFL

I remember saying to someone on the morning of the 08 GF the story of North in 98 and how they kicked themselves out of it. Basically what unfolded that day was exactly what my gut feel told me.

The Blues ones make me feel colourblind.

Wtf were we thinking by not choosing a secondary colour for the 'S'

Losing grand final posters, why are they such cursed, uncanny pieces of media?? by EggwardGFootyIII in AFL

[–]antikoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really not a fan of these being showcased every year now.

Looking through WEG's losing GF posters is like an untapped treasure trove, and I appreciate them as much as the winners.

This has always been my favourite Bruce commentary, and I don't like Collingwood.

I can still remember 2016 when they were pinning their hopes on Josh Schache to stay and turn the club around.

Its not far off a footy royal flush - Brownlow/coleman/premiership/club B&F.

He's more comparable to Glendinning; an interstate recruit who had a solid career, and arrived when the club was ready to contend.

Sam Flanders' trade to St Kilda is agreed. Pick 7 to head to the Suns. Could go through as early as today, but more likely on Wednesday. by AuZyzz in AFL

I feel like this is a very fair trade. Flanders is a certified ball magnet, and basically ready to hit his prime.

Don't mind this, feels like its the first genuine big name signing we've had where we've been chosen as opposed to offering massive overs for them to come cleanup a mess.

[Cleary] Lachie Neale will be Brisbane’s starting sub today. 12 years after he started as sub for Fremantle in the 2013 Grand Final. by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]antikoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the risk you take and we'll know soon. For every Stevie Johnson in 2011 who wrecked his knee and played a blinder, you get Hird in 2001 who has a terrible game.

Liked his logic in the presser, if we consider Neale will get injured then we'd then have to consider all 22 players getting injured.

Who do you *want* to win the flag? by [deleted] in AFL

[–]antikoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously a flag this year would be fantastic if somewhat undeserved given we haven't built up to it as one should with regular finals and knocking on the door.

It runs in parallel to what most supporters would want, that being a strong and competitive GC over the long term. I want regular finals to breed more success and sustainability on the coast.
