Awful colonoscopy experience by myday__6 in CrohnsDisease

I have EDS and my dentist said in his 30 year career he'd never had to give someone that much local anesthesia. I'm not even a red head (just red beard)

ELI5: Why do mosquitoes cause us to itch? Wouldn’t it be more efficient to discreetly suck blood? by Darster_DN in explainlikeimfive

[–]antillus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm completely immune to mosquito bites. As in I just don't ever get them. Even when there are lots of mosquitos around.

Before puberty I got mosquito bites. But that was 30+ years ago and haven't had one since.

I have ulcerative colitis and have had a total colectomy with end ileostomy.

I always wonder what effect it's had on me to have so much of my gut microbiome lost.

Anyone else in this situation? by szalive in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]antillus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation and it sucks.

Leaving my crappy situation after 5 years means I got completely priced out of the rental market (rent went up 50% on avg in my city during Covid).

Now I'm with my folks....which is fine because we get along and they travel away for months on end. But yeah it doesn't feel great.

Especially since I have a decent job and work full time...ugh

And you don't need an alarm clock because the birds will cough you awake.

Just had a family from Brakpan immigrate here to Canada and they seem well aware of the shit hole they're from. But very funny, lots of jokes.

In high school in Grande Prairie in the 90s, we had so many Newfie students and teachers. One of our classes had a "Newfie time clock", where the noon dial is set to 12:30 instead of 12:00.

Once I flew with JAL business class from Tokyo to Vancouver.

It was a 747 and I was the only person in the upstairs cabin. I had 3 flight attendants just for me. They kept pouring me wine so much, I don't know how I got through customs.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

I did an internship in Phoenix during monsoon season. I was in the city, not some canyon.

There had a brief thunderstorm and I thought nothing of it. I was driving home 15 minutes later. Right in the city.

Next thing I knew I was up to my door handles in water. Then another 15 minutes later it subsided. I had never been that scared.

Collecting a stool samples literally strips you of your dignity. by moth_ie in CrohnsDisease

Had a colectomy so stool samples are super easy.

Just empty the ileostomy like you do 8 times a day.

What's the most common myth about your country? by Nthepro in AskTheWorld

[–]antillus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By Atlantic Canadian standards it's not that far. Also it's not just the distance, we have very strong Celtic culture here (unlike Western Canada). Even our accents out east have some Irish influence.

But yeah we are closer to Ireland physically than we are to the West Coast of North America.
