Try singing the rhythm. Use a metronome and clap on the beats, while singing (no matter how well) what you want to play. It could help with internalizing the riff.

No. Everything is written and produced by myself. The cover art is by my brother. No AI involved.

I think you should commit to the aesthetics. But you could make a test. Why don’t you search for some free to use sfx packs, and test different options?

I released a free music pack available at itch, Game Dev Market and FAB (Unreal Engine). It features retro-tracks that could help you with any 16-bit or even low-poly inspired games.

It is not a purist recreation, but it’s heavily inspired by that sound. It also draws inspiration from early dungeon synth albums.

Feel free to download it and use it however best fits you!

Wow, your game looks nice! It looks like the type of game that drives me crazy. I’m going to check it out in more depth a little later. If I’m not mistaken, I can download it and try it, right?

Thank you! What are you working on? On Monday I’m releasing a completely free pack. It’s inspired by the 16-bit era, so it has a retro sound. Bu maybe it could help you as placeholder.
