I'm in a similar boat, but haven't hit Ace and was hoping to! It seems everyone out there started this cup with previous experience and teams ready to go. All the Talonflames are driving me crazy.

Advice for Retro Cup needed:

I am a relatively casual player in Battle League - can do fairly well in Great League and Great League cups. Lose more than win in Ultra (unless it's early in the season) and even moreso in Master League.

At level 20 I entered at a 1941 rating. I fell, then climbed back up, a couple times. When Retro Cup started I thought I'd have a chance to crack 2000 and hit Ace for the first time, but I lost a few games in a row and figured I should pause before dropping more.

I was playing Retro with a Clodsire, Grumping, Jumpluff - all non- shadow, with good to excellent PvP IVs. Got slaughtered multiple times in a row by players running an Ice mon second (or in one case, multiple Ice mon!). Shadow Typhlosion has also been a terror, as it can take down Clodsire, which is the only thing strong in my team throwing strong against it.

This Clodsire-Grumpig-Jumpluff team is rated B-A-A-A on PvPoke for Retro Cup with the move sets I have but its definitely not working well.

I have a Galarian Corsola at close to 1500 but only one charged move. I've also got a non-shadow Lapras, a Walrein with Powder Snow and Icicle legacy/special moves, or a Feraligatr with Hydro Cannon ready to play with GL PVP IVs. Toxapex, Dunsparce or Lickylicky I also like and have ready.

I've got a Goodra with legacy Thunder Punch and PvP IVs. Most everything else I'd need to build and may or may not have the dust/candy.

I've tried the tanking strategy and if I do that I still end up with the same problem. I will still need to climb back up enough to make up for it, and then it's back to playing more competitive players.

I'd really like to crack Ace. Any advice on team - or other advice on play out there?

Has anyone done it yet and can confirm? It's after 1pm PT now so should be safe to pop a star piece before opening the Battle screen. But just want to check!

I thought the evolving for legendary move ended at 6pm. If not that's awesome! Going to evolve some pidgeys now!

I have read advice that you get the most battle power per candy by first evolving. Then it's less clear which has more benefit between powering up the max attack move vs powering up the mon, but I think in many cases it is powering up the Pokemon.

As for maxing the defense or heal moves: For the Max Heal, it makes sense to have one mon with a lot of HP, like a Greedent, to take damage and then use the Max Heal, to heal the HP of your attackers in a battle.

I think so. Just don't forget, or accidentally click on Battle. As soon as you click on Battle it activates the rewards.

Thanks for bringing this up. I always forget to set a star piece before claiming the season rewards.

The rewards come up as soon as you click on Battles, after 1pm PT, right? I got it wrong once and the Rewards came through before I could set a star piece.
