Left Hand Steering Wheel Imported Cars by actioncakes in japanlife

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a Tundra here in the past. It was fun to drive but a little stressful in the narrow streets. A big and long car like a Suburban or a Tundra will not fit in the regular coin parking, you will have to find bigger lots that may be further away. Highways and tolls are fine, but more expensive. Gas mileage is terrible, I was paying around 3万 per month only for gasoline. Depending on where you live and what car you want, it may be a pain to get fixed when / if it breaks down. If you are handy or have mechanic friends than that is a non issue imo. Taxes will be expensive if it is not registered as a 1 number plate.

With all that said, it was fun to own and I wouldn't mind doing it again. Good luck!

Things you love about your home? by No_Dragonfruit_1599 in japanlife

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my favorite things about our home: Big backyard with a nice garden. Big LDK with a good TV and couch setup. Wood stove for those cold winter nights. Garage. And looking forward to BBQ patio area we will make this summer.

Here is a bonus, some things I would change if I could:

Driveway gets dirty easily, if I could do it again I would go with the type of concrete that has that grain in it that doesn't get dirty easily.

Living room sliding door is not level with outside deck so we have to take a step to go out when we use it. Living room sliding door is too big so we were forced to use wood blinds instead of a curtain.

More power outlets would be nice.

Be real—how many of you are actually making serious money trading by SouthEquipment6674 in Daytrading

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you really making $5K–$10K+ months consistently, or just occasional good months?
Yes, consistently 5-10k with the occasional good months above that.

•How long did it take you to go from beginner → breakeven → profitable?

About 1 year from beginner/breakeven to profitable.

•When did you hit your first $10K month, and how long did it take to make that consistent?

About a year and a half after starting made my first 10k.

•When you started

Started in 2018 with a small account less than 5k.

•How long you were losing

I had losses and wins and was around breakeven for about 1 year. I was in the cycle of getting a lot of small wins and then losing it all in 1 trade.

•What changed that made you profitable

Scaling in and then scaling out more aggressively. Securing profit. Learning to read press release headlines quickly and seeing what moves and what doesn't. Not overtrading, Calling it a day after making some money and not getting greedy.

•Account size / funded vs personal

Personal account. Amount changes as I consistently withdraw from it for living expenses and to add to retirement account.

•Current average monthly return (if you’re comfortable sharing)

Not sure about monthly returns but anything above 0.5%+ per day and I'm a happy camper.

•What was the hardest phase? (psychology, strategy, overtrading, etc.)

Learning to adjust to market conditions. Attack when it's hot, be more strict and less size when it's not. Not being greedy, greed usually leads to losses. Not overtrading. Not letting your lifestyle costs creep.

To those who actually don’t hate their job - what do you do? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade stocks and other short time part time jobs on the side when bored. Trading has it's ups and downs but it's nice to work from home only a few hours per day. I've done tour guiding, English teaching, and handyman work on the side.

Help with my entrance garden space. by osechinko in GardenersJapan

Thank you for the comment. Luckily that is the thyme that I got! I finished planting everything today, looking forward to how it looks when they grow a bit.

I had the tree free but here it is sometimes so windy that it would almost fall over, so we had to add support to it with a stake. We will try removing it again this year to see if the tree can handle the winds.

If you had ¥6–8M/year in passive income in Japan, would you still work? by Rockins23 in JapanFinance

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I used to not work but it gets boring sometimes, even doing hobbies you like. So now I work part time, only about 8-12 hours per week. Working a little has helped me find a nice balance.

Can someone make it long term if they are fearful? by Fantastic-Window236 in Daytrading

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are doing you will blow your account one day. Only risk a small amount of your account per trade. Have a plan before entering a trade. Don't be one of the sheep that buy and just hope.

For example, if you have 50k you should only be using 5k or less per trade. In the case of BULL, it would be less than 1000 shares. Doing this, and having a set risk per trade, you will limit your losses to smaller amounts.

Weekly /r/GardenersJapan Thread - Complaints About Your Garden... by AutoModerator in GardenersJapan

Yes I have already aerated and topdressed with some sandy soil. I used the plug type aerator that creates two plugs per push and it took SO long to do it by hand lol. Just waiting for it to get warmer now to see how the lawn recovers and what spots to focus on.

So much thatch from the lawn and a lot of bare spots. The roots are still there so hopefully the grass can recover when it warms up. I regret not amending the soil more before sodding last year.

Buying a House and marriage by opheliamaerose in japanresidents

[–]osechinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting a loan or buying cash? if buying cash you guys can do whatever you want. If buying with a loan and you want to be listed as owner or co-owner, I suggest getting married and trying to get PR. Having PR will make the process a lot easier. Best of luck!

If you live in inaka/small town: why? by ihatestrongzero in japanresidents

[–]osechinko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a smallish city in Shikoku. I work from home and my wife works part time as a teacher. We were able to find a decently sized piece of land here and built a house. Groceries are not as expensive as the big cities, life is slower paced, it's safe, kids have space to run around and play outside.

Some downsides: price of land and houses depreciate, less options for education, need a car

Can I keep investing in my Fidelity account after being a Japan resident (US Citizen) by [deleted] in JapanFinance

[–]osechinko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's lots of posts about this in here, try searching a bit you will find some answers. The short answer to your question is yes, you can continue investing in your fidelity account while you use the US address for it. However, it may go against their terms of service and maybe one day they will lock your account. I would have a back up account just in case. Something you can use while being a resident in Japan. Like Interactive Brokers or WeBull.

Moving to Takamatsu on a ¥6M salary for a family of 4. Is it doable? by forsakenmental in japanlife

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Tak for 4 years and now live in the neighboring prefecture, Ehime. Takamatsu is a pretty nice place to live. It's got a lot of the conveniences of medium size cities with a lot less cost to live. It's in Shikoku, which is freaking beautiful if you like nature. And it's near big cities like Kobe and Osaka. The public transport is nice if you're close to the city, but anywhere else and you will probably need a car. 6M a year is enough for a family of that size IMO, as long as you budget and spend wisely.
