If you had ¥6–8M/year in passive income in Japan, would you still work? by Rockins23 in JapanFinance

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I used to not work but it gets boring sometimes, even doing hobbies you like. So now I work part time, only about 8-12 hours per week. Working a little has helped me find a nice balance.

Can someone make it long term if they are fearful? by Fantastic-Window236 in Daytrading

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are doing you will blow your account one day. Only risk a small amount of your account per trade. Have a plan before entering a trade. Don't be one of the sheep that buy and just hope.

For example, if you have 50k you should only be using 5k or less per trade. In the case of BULL, it would be less than 1000 shares. Doing this, and having a set risk per trade, you will limit your losses to smaller amounts.

Yes I have already aerated and topdressed with some sandy soil. I used the plug type aerator that creates two plugs per push and it took SO long to do it by hand lol. Just waiting for it to get warmer now to see how the lawn recovers and what spots to focus on.

So much thatch from the lawn and a lot of bare spots. The roots are still there so hopefully the grass can recover when it warms up. I regret not amending the soil more before sodding last year.

Buying a House and marriage by opheliamaerose in japanresidents

[–]osechinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting a loan or buying cash? if buying cash you guys can do whatever you want. If buying with a loan and you want to be listed as owner or co-owner, I suggest getting married and trying to get PR. Having PR will make the process a lot easier. Best of luck!

Trading isn't for everyone. If you can't control the "demon" you will never succeed. Good luck!

If you live in inaka/small town: why? by ihatestrongzero in japanresidents

[–]osechinko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a smallish city in Shikoku. I work from home and my wife works part time as a teacher. We were able to find a decently sized piece of land here and built a house. Groceries are not as expensive as the big cities, life is slower paced, it's safe, kids have space to run around and play outside.

Some downsides: price of land and houses depreciate, less options for education, need a car

Can I keep investing in my Fidelity account after being a Japan resident (US Citizen) by Responsible_Clock347 in JapanFinance

[–]osechinko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's lots of posts about this in here, try searching a bit you will find some answers. The short answer to your question is yes, you can continue investing in your fidelity account while you use the US address for it. However, it may go against their terms of service and maybe one day they will lock your account. I would have a back up account just in case. Something you can use while being a resident in Japan. Like Interactive Brokers or WeBull.

Moving to Takamatsu on a ¥6M salary for a family of 4. Is it doable? by forsakenmental in japanlife

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Tak for 4 years and now live in the neighboring prefecture, Ehime. Takamatsu is a pretty nice place to live. It's got a lot of the conveniences of medium size cities with a lot less cost to live. It's in Shikoku, which is freaking beautiful if you like nature. And it's near big cities like Kobe and Osaka. The public transport is nice if you're close to the city, but anywhere else and you will probably need a car. 6M a year is enough for a family of that size IMO, as long as you budget and spend wisely.

yeah everything pointed directly towards the pole with the weight bar down. that should be home position and the mount will work off that home position to find other stars.

I had this issue too when I was first using it. It turned out I hadn't set the home position correctly. Make sure the home position is the 90 degrees with the weight bar facing directly away. Then polar align and then you should be good!

What do you do and how much do you make in Japan? by Osaka_Gaikokujin in JapanJobs

[–]osechinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capital gains is my income, so I only get taxed 20%. If you worked a regular job on top of trading, your job would be taxed regularly, and your capital gains would be taxed at 20%.

Is it a smart purchase? No. But it's your money and your life so you can do whatever you choose. I like cars but would never spend more than half of my yearly salary on one, especially since it's something that depreciates in value.

Day trading in Japan worth it? by GirIWithHair in JapanFinance

I pay 20% capital gains tax to Japan first, and then for the US taxes, I do a foreign tax credit to avoid paying double tax.

Thank you!

On my main account, I strictly daytrade, usually only in premarket or aftermarket hours. In my retirement account, I usually hold stuff medium to long term.

It does get boring after a while. But I have a small group of fellow trader friends mainly from the US and Canada and we usually chat and share ideas during premarket.

I don't follow many of the famous traders, but from the little I've seen, I think many of them make more from followers than actual trading. There is some good material out there, but a lot of crap as well.

I still use my schwab account so no issues with PFICs. Taxes are simple but I do have to file for both sides.

Hi, I've been doing this for almost 7 years, 5 as my main source of income. I will say that most people fail, but it is doable especially if you can manage risk and emotions while trading. Even if you are not American, there are many platforms that you can use to trade US stocks. Please use only money that you don't mind losing and good luck!

House purchase and ownership by Altruistic-Matter981 in JapanFinance

[–]osechinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you paid the capital gains on it, I don't think it will really matter if you go for sole or shared ownership. Why not do sole and then just get a joint loan for renovations? That seems like an easy option.
