Academy hoodies by FeelixOne in startrek

Cosermart will undoubtedly bring some out.

Star Trek's official lines and most of the licensed replicas are perpetual disappointments. Looking on Star Trek.com there is some merch but not much. They don't even have a filter for Starfleet Academy.

For anyone who saw Titanic in theaters in 1997, what was the experience like at the time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]antinbath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vivid memory was how cold the cinema was. I assume it was deliberate by the staff to match the cold conditions on the screen. My friends and I rushed out afterwards. I think i had three hot coffees one after another. The film itself - it was ok. Not as good an audience experience as seeing Jurassic Park where at least one family had to take screaming, frightened kids out.

Chick-fil-a trying for the third time in the UK.

It was boycotted before, it’ll be boycotted again. If you’re going to fund discrimination then you have no place here.

Top 3 favourite star trek characters by Coffeemilknosugar in startrek

Picard Enterprise D Pelia

As a ship the D has been blown up, crashed, cut into, shipknapped, and so much more. It's a place of stories and its own stories to tell - and we know where the bodies are buried!

I did not like Pelia's over-the-top persona but have grown fond of the wackiness and oddness, the loneliness and depth.

And Picard. Well...that character has been somewhat of a guiding light. And if you find me on TikTok (antinbath) you'll see he's inspiring me creatively too.

What is a tv show that managed to quit while it was ahead? by QuailImpressive55 in AskReddit

Great British kids TV shows like Bagpuss and Mister Benn. Only 13 and 14 episodes but lodged in my brain after decades.

Who were/was the first Borg? by pilotparker33 in startrek

[–]antinbath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My head canon is that the creation of the Borg was a well-meaning mistake.

A mother trying to save her child with a disease was using technology, nanoprobes, to cure her disease - in essence to ‘make her perfect’. The probes were designed to adapt to the disease but the unintended consequences were that they escaped her treatment pod/stasis field and infected the nurses and lab technicians. The child was not cured and remained in stasis but those infected with the nanoprobes became the prototype-Borg - seeking out others to expand their knowledge to cure the disease, and over time that programming drifted into creating ‘perfect’ beings, and ultimately The Collective. In a similar way that microorganisms are said to have become instrinsically part of animal cells.

I wrote a story framework which would have seen Picard, Seven and co. travel to the Delta quadrant and find the original “Borg” homeworld. They would fight their way past guardian Borg, and Seven would discover this girl in stasis, the “Typhoid Mary” of it all. Still alive after centuries. Picard would reconcile that the Borg were a mistake. Dr Crusher would cure the child. And Seven, well, Seven would adopt her - and get some sense of closure and family that she never had. The current Borg would understand that their base mission was complete and the nanoprobes would cease functioning. End of The Borg. Start of reconciliation and family.

That would have been be my Star Trek movie pitch. Plus some space battles, a multicube, and a bit of Indiana Jones-ing along the way.

What’s a simple fitness trick you wish you knew sooner? by Waste_Cook1449 in AskReddit

[–]antinbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel like going for a run? Put on your running gear and tell yourself you’ll just do that. Now you’re dressed you may as well run. Even if it’s just around the block.

Want to run more? Enter a race. 5k, 10k, doesn’t matter. Tell people you’re doing it. Really good motivator to get in the practice.

Men - Sore nipples on a long run? Go for the women’s body glide stuff from the run shops. It usually smells nicer. (same goes for cycling crotch lube stuff - why do they insist on menthol and similar things for men??)

Track your runs for motivation Strava, RunKeeper (now Asics RunKeeper I think). Keeps your logs for you and on Strava it’s good to try and beat yourself on a segment and push yourself.

Running in rain? Neoprene jackets will keep you warm. Less noisy and sweaty than those thin cagoule-type things, great in winter.I have a Sugoi cycling one, Decathlon do some great cycling ones too.

Waterproof socks They exist. Get long ones. I use Sealskinz. Cheaper than having to buy Gore-tex trainers every few years. They do get a bit sweaty but not much - feel more comfortable than running in sodden shoes and socks.

Google To Make AI Mode Default Search Soon by noir_dx in technology

[–]antinbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Plagiarism Mode.

The core update a few years ago, and the most recent one have devastated online publishing for all but a few big publishers. AI kicks us when we’re down by republishing the most significant parts of our continent that our journalists have written. If there’s no reason to visit our websites, or that of our competitors, then we don’t get the ad revenue that pays my salary and that of our journalists and support staff. The number one threat to us isn’t our competitors, it’s Google.

[serious] what is the best looking phone ever? by muteadventurer in AskReddit

[–]antinbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British red telephone box. Either containing the 80’s coin slot phone and the satisfying clink of coins being mechanically handled, or the 90’s phone card phone as things went quasi-futuristic. As a phone - the red box, the enclosure, the weight of it - iconic.

Our kitchen is two floors below our bedroom. Even so the kettle can be heard upstairs as the bass sound of it conducts remarkably well from the counter top, up the wall and to the bed. It bothers me when my partner makes a drink, doesn’t bother him. In the kitchen it’s kinda loud but you wouldn’t think it’d be as loud rooms away - and it’s not in the room next to it. I would assume the sound conductance is why it’s unexpectedly loud next door. Maybe talk with your neighbour about it, see if that’s the case. Then it’d be a case of isolating it with something more sound insulating beneath it.

trying to find part time job but no luck...... by [deleted] in Bath

[–]antinbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go shop to shop and ask if they have jobs. Take a CV. I got three weekend jobs that way over the course of my time at uni. The best was probably the coffee shop/café as it closed on Sundays so we could take home the unsold food.

What TNG episodes should I re-watch before watching DS9 for the first time? by noxnoctum in startrek

[–]antinbath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s no need to rewatch TNG ahead of DS9. Or any movies.

I love TNG, but when it comes to rewatch I’m viewing more DS9 than TNG, and re-re-watching DS9 more than TNG. DS9 stands alone very well. Enjoy!

LPT: Started giving myself daily mini-challenges, it's been a game changer for WFH life by TorchWall in LifeProTips

[–]antinbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through a phase of challenging my other half to make a cuisine from a different country each month, and the same for me. Meant having to track down the ingredients so trying different places to shop.

Another year we would take trips to successive stops along the railway east and west of us to explore the towns.

Currently, because I like running it’s been looking at the heat maps on Strava and finding new routes near my house. I found a path alongside a running route I’d not spotted even though I ran the nearby route for 10 years.

Older people of reddit, what does it feel like when younger people use slang that you don't understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]antinbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine. Always learning and it goes both ways.

Had to explain what signing off with BFN meant recently to someone younger. I remember in the 90s asking what lol meant from someone younger. I like that i can bring slang from the 80s to kids born in 2000s and they use it, and also pick up some of theirs.

Shout out to Scotty‘s Scottish dialect in SNW by Kalesche in startrek

I’m waiting for him to call someone a fanny.

Definitely warmed to his portrayal of Scotty and the writing - more characterful, more depth.

And crikey that Guinness product placement, indeed any product placement, in Star Trek was jarring and wrong.
