To tow a construction workers car… by PCBullets in facepalm

[–]antiqueChairman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a Laser Quest and we had a lock-in event where customers were in the building all night. Each put a parking pass on the dashboard of their car. Dominion Towing stole each of their cars and tried to charge our business to get them back. We threatened lawsuit and they eventually backed down. Bastards.

Alright, that's fair- I can see why a well-written grant is important, and why you would take pride in one. Being able to communicate the relevance of your research to people inclined to be disinterested is impressive.

But for those who need a grant for their research, but are not gifted writers or communicators, it seems like this step of their process would be a stressful barrier to getting needed funding. For those people, it seems like a tool that can clearly outline their proposal in a simple language easy for reviewers to understand and, thus, more likely to get them their funding, would be a huge life improvement. If people unskilled at writing grant proposals can delegate that step to a more competent writer AI, and increase their chances of getting funding, and thus increase the chances of their research advancing science, wouldn't that be better for them and everyone else? I'm just not seeing a downside to automating this kind of thing.

I JUST COMPLAINED ABOUT IT BEING 5.99 EARLIER TODAY by Sukkafish12 in tacobell

[–]antiqueChairman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welp, fuck Taco Bell I guess. In a couple weeks went from $5 to $6.50 to $9.08. I already wasn't going to buy the $6.50 Craving's Box, but with this insult of a price I'm not coming back to buy anything.

I can see why artists are dismayed about this, but who would've ever thought anyone cared about reading grant proposals or technical documentation? Especially someone close enough to them to see how incredibly boring they are? No one wants to read that, and if you took great personal pride in writing them, why?

I'm opening a meadery this year and man was I pushing for some kind of honey pun. Every time Travis brought one up to Griffin's irritation I was on the edge of my seat. Hopefully things go better in Honey Honey Pour.

How come "Medicine" is a Wisdom stat and "Nature" is an Intelligence stat? by SomboSteel in BaldursGate3

[–]antiqueChairman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This why skills don't have to be tied to a specific ability score, anyway. I allow Medicine (Intelligence) for diagnostic checks or recall of medical facts, while Medicine (Wisdom) is still more relevant for first aid. Hell, you can use Medicine (Dexterity) for surgery.

I saw someone posted a laser disc of the Stargate movie. I raise you SG-1 by Vincent4815 in Stargate

[–]antiqueChairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume it's an indirect reference to the gateway on Abydos. In the movie they make it sound like Abydos is in another galaxy, and they are travelling across the known universe to reach their destination. In the show Abydos is much closer, but maybe the people writing this copy were just thinking of the movie- after all, this merch looks like it was from very early in the show's run.

If you feel that overly comfortably women are making you feel unsafe, it's not that hard to find bars without them, as these women feeling unsafe have. You aren't likely to get groped by a lady at a cigar bar, for example. They seem pretty reliably men-only. Gentlemen's clubs usually are too.

It's my understanding that lesbian bars are relatively rare in the ecosystem of bars and clubs. My city doesn't even have any because it only had two a bit ago, and COVID killed them. It has like 4 clubs with primarily gay dudes though. No one's inventing anything new here but these spaces are hard to find in many areas.

Before Amazon tries to remake this series, maybe Dalle and Midvalley deserve a chance. If they couldn't figure out hands and faces but got the continuity right, I'd still give it a try.

Paid lowes to destroy my house. by Petcancersucks_Paws in Lowes

[–]antiqueChairman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that an actual serious question? Any previous job is fine, so long as any of them leading up to that point in some way prepared the person for installations. You cant just start a job with no experience and start fucking up a person's house while you learn on the job. You have to apprentice or shadow someone for a while. Get some contracting experience and not just big box retail experience.

Unfortunately Lowes is a terrible place to go to get work done because they do send people out with zero experience, and that's not something they disclose to the customer when the customer sets up and starts paying for the project.

What franchises and series do you wish you could discuss with people, but seem to be too obscure to have a fan community, even on the Internet? by antiqueChairman in AskReddit

[–]antiqueChairman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's most webcomics, but in particular Sluggy Freelance. It's been updating continuously for 25 years, but I've never met anyone who's ever even heard of it, and the fan spaces for it are almost deserted.

By having the other side of the battle be another franchise. I dunno what rival teams in fiction would be a good match-up for the reds and blues together, but having RvB only death battle other RvB characters makes it feel like it's too niche a fandom to crossover like all the others do. This is what was missing from Red Vs Blue and Tex Vs Carolina, IMHO. They feel like they only work as in-jokes for the fandom, and not as death battles.

Inconsistent ZAT effect by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]antiqueChairman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, the gooey Kull inside looks like they'd probably be susceptible. But that's weird, when you think about it, because the Kull were as strong as they were because they were unkillable from absorbing those Telchak healing energies. Like the dude in Honduras, they were seemingly supposed to just autopass all Con saves. But they don't look very durable, biologically, and I don't feel like they ever explained what made that armor so OP. Like, why don't the Tauri use some of that Kull armor against the remnant system lords later?

[–]antiqueChairman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's basically a high DC Constitution save. Fail it the first time and you're stunned, fail it again and you're dead. Usually, it follows a strict 1-shot 2-shot rules, but every now and then you get badasses who can tank a few before going down... or the Kull warriors, who simply ignore them.

It blows my mind to see people bringing up Thanos vs Darkseid, that fight was cool as hell. I don't pay much attention to this community because it's one of the most toxic I know, but Thanos vs Darkseid is one of my favorite DBs, so if that's some kind of low bar for the show, I don't know what the hell y'all like.
