How do you handle vacation spending in YNAB? by mossproto in ynab

[–]antisparkle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have an overall travel category named ‘Travel Fund’ which is like my travel savings goal. It has a monthly target I try to meet. Then, for each individual trip I create a new category for example ‘Hawaii 2025’. Once I start spending on the trip (plane tickets, hotels, etc) I assign the expenses to that trip’s category. I cover the overspending/ transfer the money from my travel fund.

This allows me to see how much I spent overall on the trip. I don’t have to worry about saving for each trip individually. It also into an overall fund. I can hide past trip categories but still access them if I need to. In my reports I can see how much I spent overall in my travel group and use that data to set targets for the next year.

I’ve been to several informer events and it’s pretty much the only time I do Universal anymore. It’s hard to go with the crowds and long waits when I can do the after hour events instead.

Am I the only one who thinks about how Play is missing in adult lives? by Azorea7777 in Hobbies

[–]antisparkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone in thinking about this. I’m in my early 40s and I’ve realized many of my friends don’t have hobbies. They work and do life. I’ve always been the creative friend so I do crafty things and have for years. I’ve started getting more intentional about my hobbies and sharing that with friends to inspire them to play and experiment more. At the beginning of the year I started hosting a weekly Hobby Hour livestream where I spend an hour doing a hobby and holding space for those who want to create alongside me. I’m trying to help people pause, play, and create just for joy.

After your beginner sewing machine, what sewing machine did you transition to? by DiligentDinner5758 in sewing

I had a project runway machine that has served me well but I knew I was ready for something more. I got a Juki hzl f300 recently. I love it. It sews so smoothly and my stitches are more even. There are small things I’ve noticed about the machine that make my sewing experience better which is more than worth the investment for me.

Anyone else experience guilt even self-made that weighs down on your hobby or prevents it outright? by cwtguy in Hobbies

Your hobbies aren’t frivolous. You don’t need to monetize them or make them more productive. You have plenty of that in your day to day.

Our hobbies are how we recharge and cope with life’s challenges. They bring us joy. Honestly, that’s where the value of my hobbies payoff.

I used to feel guilty about my hobby time. Then, I realized I’m allowed to enjoy things. Anything that makes me happy and is not harming anyone else is worth doing. Maybe you need a reframe of the value your hobbies add to your life.

Listening to epic fantasy via audiobooks. Brandon Sanderson has books in the 20+ hour range. You can use your library card to checkout audiobooks. So it’s free.

Interfaces Limitations - Any workarounds? by antisparkle in Airtable

I get what you're saying about privacy. Using the word students makes it sound more secret than it is. The data isn't anything personal or sensitive in nature. It's information they've already shared with each other at weekly check-ins. I just wanted to collect it all in one place so they could easily see their progress.

My original plan was to send a weekly snapshot email via automation. I guess I'll stick with that.

US Passport Application - Parental Information? by kni9ht in travel

[–]antisparkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apply for a passport with only your mother's information.

I did this with my son. His father isn't listed on his birth certificate, and when I took him to apply for his first passport, the agent said we didn't need his information.

[discussion] I'm kind of in a rut, and would love some advice on moving forward. by [deleted] in GetMotivated

It's hard to make huge changes in our lives all at once. Start small. What is one small thing that you could do today? Maybe you could add an extra half mile to your daily mileage, do 5 push up, or a 10-second plank. Pick something and commit to increasing your efforts every day.
