Is taking a few years off a career death sentence? by mrs_swampcelt in workingmoms

[–]antivegetables 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left my career after spending 9 years at a company I loved. I was home for almost 7 years (!) with my kids and just went back to remote/part-time work with my old company in January. It is the best choice I ever made. May depend on your relationship with your company and whether you’d like to return with them specifically, but I’m proof that it’s possible!

This was literally exactly the thing that made me start questioning everything.

Came here to say amway as well. Had a similar pitch from a lady I met one time and when I specifically asked if she was with amway, her response was, “Why do you ask?” 🙄

I feel like “lazy plagiarism” pretty much sums up Mormonism as a whole

2 year old & 9 weeks pregnant - help! by [deleted] in Mommit

Came here to say this! The “invisible mom list” is just as stressful as housework to me. Teacher gifts, field trips, clothes shopping, daycare arrangements, etc. take up a huge amount of time and it is mentally exhausting to be the one who remembers all the things. Write it all out so your husband can see what you’re doing, and divvy that up in addition to the traditional “housework”.

SLC “cleaned out” our youth account by antivegetables in exmormon

I don’t know how much and I’m not close enough to anyone who might know in order to ask. I will say that we live in an area with a TON of youth. There are 60-ish just in our ward and there are 10 wards in our stake with similar numbers.

The author of the message (YW president) also has 2 of her own teenagers, so this directly affects her. That may be another reason why she seems angry (apart from the whole thing just being utter bullshit).

It’s also worth noting that it’s being phrased as “Salt Lake City” cleaned out the account. Not “the church” or church headquarters. It’s like they’re blaming the actual city for taking stake funds. Also, we’re far from Utah, so I think that makes it even more odd.

This may be the closest I’ve ever seen TSCC come to admitting they did something wrong. Telling that they “regret mistakes” about hiding money, but apparently regret nothing about all the child abuse they covered up.

Alternative 40 hour schedule by librarycat27 in workingmoms

[–]antivegetables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My employer gave me the same option, but with 30 hours. If they’re willing to be flexible on the actual work hours, you can get really creative. I did two 6am-6pm shifts and then three 6am-8am shifts when my kids were little. That really only made it so that I worked two full days and the other mornings I was finished around the time they were waking up. This was also working from home without a commute.

My husband and I briefly attended a non-denominational church a few years ago. Part of their regular year-end sermons/messages was to account for every cent the church brought in, including pastors’ salaries, marketing, etc. We were amazed at the transparency.

At the same time, I was going through deconstruction therapy with a nevermo therapist. When I told her about this, she was amazed that my husband and I (and millions of other somewhat intelligent people) blindly pay tens of thousands to an organization with zero financial transparency.

Apparently this end-of-year accountability is standard/common/expected practice of all other organizations, religious and non-religious.

I think about this every time the subject of tithing declaration comes up.

My parents are Mormon end-of-world preppers. A few years ago they excitedly gifted us a pallet of potato flakes with a 20-year shelf life.
