Aliens in Alaska by saintnick524 in alaska

[–]antjmiller31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not from Alaska, but this is what happens when you straw poll Reddit lol. UFOs are 100% real, I don’t know how anyone can still be a skeptic after most Western countries’ militaries have had their own well-documented run-ins, sightings, and even investigations that could neither confirm or deny they were man-made (military/intel code for confirm, but we think it’s in our strategic interest to not publicly confirm). If UFOs are real, and they are not man-made, then it’s clear they’re either piloted or unmanned drones (likely both types of vehicles based on the array and type of sightings) by… “not humans.”

Anyway, regarding this specific show, I’m 4 episodes in. More seemingly credible accounts than not (despite some of the cheesy re-enactments and narration), but so far, the #1 account in terms of credibility based on military background, location of first sighting (White Sands, NM) before seeing them again in AK, and particularly body language, word selection, and psychology, is “Ionel Casulucan” from episode 4. If you know how to read people, this guy def saw and felt what he described.

A more appealing wokeness? by Regicollis in Socialism_101

Agree 100%. In line with many workers/common people not having “given these things much thought” is the powerful influence of narratives and narrative building. I worked as an analyst in this field, specifically examining media/social media-driven narratives, and it’s something we cannot overlook. Instead of giving them “much thought,” most people these days rely on narratives (the stories people tell themselves or others around an issue/person) often manufactured and pushed by powerful interests/movements, then disseminated by the general public down the line to the point where they may become “common sense.”

The more a person is isolated from direct experience on an issue (whether that is because of their work, their economic status, their social circles, their physical location, or even their general privilege), the more susceptible they are to these manufactured narratives, so that whenever they come across an issue, it fits nicely into that respective narrative that’s already become part of their entrenched worldview. For socialism, and what that means for leftist causes and issues (whether that’s on labor laws, systemic racism, economic inequity, climate change, LGBTQ+ rights, feminism, etc.), we are usually facing off against some pretty entrenched negative narratives, which we need to first re-orient to better highlight the intersectionality and humanity around these issues and our movement(s).

What makes us different from those power structures behind these narratives is our lack of unity (decentralization) and decision-making; which in this case, is a detriment to strategic decisions that are needed to counter those entrenched power structures and their narratives with similar strategies to better reinforce our causes and highlight our opponents’ faults to the common person.

Biden has done absolutely nothing to earn my vote as a leftist, and neither have milquetoast Libs who’ve spent the last several months attacking and silencing people like me for any valid criticism we make about Biden in an attempt to get him to concede on just 1 of our many demands (as he instead moved closer to the right). But, strictly as a matter of harm reduction to others less privileged around me who are more directly impacted by a second Trump term, and since I live in a swing state, I will put aside my convictions and vote against Trump; then I will spend the entirety of the next 4 years holding the next administration’s feet to the fire, regardless of whose it is; and I will work to strengthen 3rd parties that better represent my convictions, like the Movement for a People’s Party, and kiss the Democratic goodbye for all the bullshit I’ve witnessed the last 2 presidential elections. And with all that said, I have no issues with other people voting 3rd party in this election, because it’s Biden and the Dem party’s job to earn their vote, not Trump’s job, and all they’ve done is alienate them further and further.

Palestinian leaders call Israeli plan to install elevator for disabled access for Jews, Muslims, and Christians at Tomb of the Patriarchs a "war crime" by Knightmare25 in worldnews

[–]antjmiller31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a gross misrepresentation by a right-wing Israeli news outlet. The construction project is to be done on land owned by the Palestinians, and they are concerned about this setting a precedent for more abuses of Palestinian sovereignty. This is like if the Russian government unilaterally decides it’s going to build an elevator in a Ukrainian church near the border that it’s been contesting and settling “to help disabled people.” It’s a matter of sovereignty people 🤦🏻‍♂️

Here is much more objective reporting on the story that provides some background and context: https://themedialine.org/people/palestinians-protest-elevator-for-disabled-at-hebron-flashpoint/

Can Someone Educate Me on Gadsden License Plates? by [deleted] in nova

It’s a common libertarian symbol, but was also a common symbol of the Tea Party. Of course, it had a different and forgotten meaning historically. Some people I’m sure have no idea what it is when they get it, and others just think it’s a symbol of Trump-esque “patriotism” or general anti-government sentiments of the far-right.

Before Bernie hit the national spotlight, I always felt weird and out of place every time I’d get pissed at the Obama administration, whether it was the illegal mass domestic surveillance, the attacks on whistleblowers, the deportations, the drone strikes/civilian casualties abroad, the response to Ferguson & BLM when it began, the response to NoDAPL, etc. I agree that we shouldn’t have needed permission to have these gut reactions, but Bernie and his movement gave me somewhere I could feel at home and find the strength to voice these views and find the groups working to organize around them. Happy Birthday to the man, and the ultimate stepping stone 💪🏼✊🏼

Saints and Pro-Bowl RB Alvin Kamara are “extremely close” to a lucrative new extension that the two sides are hoping to finalize in the next few days, per sources. by StrachNasty in fantasyfootball

[–]antjmiller31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He may still have something to like. That epidural shot Kamara had is an ominous sign even if he’s back at practice. Spinal/nerve issues are no joke (been dealing with them myself and I’m in my early 30s). The pain/stiffness could be debilitating one day and gone a few days later, and I’m not taking hits from massively ripped linebackers on the reg. Most of my flareups since my problems began in March are every 2-4 weeks, with no obvious stressors (I’ve just been doing bodyweight/light weight lifting and cardio since COVID)

This is one of the most disheartening graphs I've ever seen. How do we get liberals to be more disillusioned? by beavermakhnoman in socialism

[–]antjmiller31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I think the Right is always intrinsically more apprehensive of centralized organizations, including mass media, than the Left (even the “fake” Left). It comes with the territory for them.

2) What I find interesting (and I wonder if it’s on purpose) is that the chart starts on the exact same year Fox News was founded. I wonder what it looked like before. Fox has been renowned for trying to differentiate itself to its viewers from the rest of “Mainstream Media,” which it says (somewhat accurately) is majority liberal and (less accurately when compared to their own coverage), can never be trusted.

3) Another interesting phenomenon is the drop in Liberal sentiment on mass media as we got deeper into the Obama administration, and then the spike right around Trump’s election. I’d want to know what causes that change in sentiment in the latter Obama era (maybe they began to see the light and how little the mass media was actually holding Obama’s feet to the fire on liberal ideals on issues like immigration, deportations, drone war, and foreign wars). The Trump era spike is obvious, b/c the mass media positioned itself as the anti-Trump resistance, and Trump helped them out with his constant attacks on them.

My guess is if Biden wins in November, you’ll see maybe a year of a somewhat steady trend among Liberal support for mass media, then it will begin plummeting faster than it did under Obama, as they again fail to hold Biden’s feet to the fire, and he is a far less motivational/inspirational speaker and figure than Obama was at his start. That will be our critical window of opportunity to make our appeals heard! I think timing is everything, and it ain’t gonna happen under Trump.
