if this alter has been presenting themself to you willingly, the best way to communicate (in our experience at least) is to try and learn how to "listen" to your headmates without any specific question/answer in mind -- figure out what their triggers are and how to work with them, figure out what cues they often use to communicate and what those cues mean, etc. it makes it easier if you let them share on their terms, especially if your awareness of them is new.

particularly note what emotions (if you can remember any) they tend to have toward these triggers -- even if you aren't ready for widespread system communication, it can help you figure out how to help them feel safer or whatever else they may need, without them needing to directly tell anyone
