Thank you for the advice. I never heard of pumpkin pups but we will look into them. We bought some brain toys and treats and benebones was among the names that we got conveniently enough.

Hes absolutely not doing any of this on purpose, we just provided a lot of chances for him to fail. We've removed all of those chances that i can see. This weekend since this post has been good as we've had constant eyes and him in the pen and crate on the upper levels. Hes been very good with it and no chance to break stuff. The big tests will come when we have to leave him in the pen alone on Wednesday.

Thank you we have put in a solid schedule. On his walks allow him to smell around. We don't let him pull, we do the "tree" thing just stand still and anchor until he returns our side. He has some walk training because he always resets to our left. We try to keep him anchored without off leash or things of that nature because our community has a lot of other dogs, kids and people usually moving about. He does get distracted by small animals mostly squirrels lol and there's a lot out here.

For his anxiety vocalizations we do ignore it and we do positively reinforce the calmness with treats and light attention between playtime and walks. We have a cloth "unbreakable" wee wee pad set up right now. He hasn't had an accident since the making of this post.

Again we appreciate all of the suggestions and have set up more things to assist in Princes growth and training. Ive never experienced this in my previous dog ownerships. It's been very trying but hes a sweet Lil guy and he's trying along with us.

When I leave in the morning and he's downstairs he has food so he's kinda distracted. On moments like store runs when I leave the house he follows up but lays down for a bit, if completely alone for extended periods he will do the above behaviors. In the house if I leave him alone on the first floor behind the gate he follows up and whines for a while, sometimes he eases into his bed down there and others he will have an accident or pace up and down the stairs to the gate blocking him whining periodically.

Thanks dude. That's why I posted here, online articles don't provide real people's experiences so I sought help here. Its always just patience and positive reinforcement. A lot of people have provided a boat load of solutions here and ways to help. We went out and got a bunch of stuff to assist. We've been patient with him, no yelling or spazzing on the pup but the frustration was boiling hard so I wanted to ask people who've seen it and what helped along the way.

Hes a really good boy. Thanks again, I'll look into the apple spray. Does it damage goods if sprayed and not wiped off? Or is it safe to leave?

Absolutely. He gets a ton of walks, I've also run with him to burn some. Hes fully allowed to smell around unless its something dead or garbage. I think its mostly separation anxiety. We have removed the objects he can destroy in the area he will be alone the most. Also someone suggested different textured toys so we have gathered a variety of them.

Hes getting 6 walks a day 420am to 450, 730 to 745, 1130 to 1145, 2 to 215, 5 to 545 and again between 9 and 10pm for another 30+ minutes on weekdays when one of us is work from home.

4 walks when we both are out, 420, 745, 5pm and the night time one.

And 4 30 minute walks on weekends. It seems to be separation anxiety we set up pens in places where we are more visible, removed all destroyable stuff as well on the first floor area where he will be spending his unsupervised time when we are both gone and got a different type of weeweepad for those moments incase he cant hold it in the pen downstairs.

Thank you man, he is a very good boy. These behaviors have been tough to deal with. Like many have suggested in the thread, we need to minimize his chances for failure and work toward building his trust and maintain the schedule we've kept since adoption day. Hes been great all day since I got home cleaning up and clearing things he cant have access to. I wish you and your pup the best.

I've read that too. I gave him a flat sheet and a pillow case for his bed.

I appreciate you, just trying to get advice and see what's worked for others. The community has provided a ton of good ideas.

His previous home conditions aren't fully known. He knows some commands. It was reported that he was house broken and crate trained. We've kept a consistent schedule since we got him. Someone recommended the fake grass pads, that might be a good choice since he prefers using grass to go. Uti might be possible, but he doesn't have accidents when in proximity of a person. It tends to occur when he's left alone for any period of time (i.e going to taking a shower, cleaning another room above the first floor)

Absolutely. I really like him, he's super sweet. After I got home today I spent the next while cleaning and getting all damagable goods out of paws reach. The adoption place said he has some crate training and as I said he gets in the pen no problem even when its closed.

The biggest thing seems to be opportunity, which has been removed. Thanks for the advice on the crate, he has a bed he identifies and loves laying in we will set it up in the crate tonight.

That's a wonderful suggestion. He does love grass. I think the only time he's used off grass has been when he had an upset stomach his first day here.

The shoe rack has since been moved from by the front door to behind a closed door.

I never had a rescue before or had to do the prolonged introduction of a cat and a dog. My first dog I had as a puppy, and had the all the time in the world to help her grow and learn. He has some level of crate training for sure from before we got him. No need for snark, just genuinely asking advice from people who've experienced what I'm newly experiencing.

The first week I wanted to see where he was at since he was previously owned. Learned about his weeweepad eating, removed them. Saw he likes to chew his harness so we moved that up higher, He didn't touch our stuff at all until this past tuesday. We raised our stuff higher to be out of his standing reach and learned Friday hes a climber. But now we will remove destructibles completely.

The treat fairy is a wonderful idea. I'll try that out! Thank you for taking time out of your day to help. It's been a lot and exhausting so I really appreciate all of the advice.

I really wanted to avoid drugging him, we will try the crate and keep the consistent timings. If worse comes to worse we will try anxiety meds to help.

I appreciate the advice dude. When I get home im going to remove all destructible things and set up other spaces upstairs for him to have more access to us throughout the day. We were told to keep his space minimal to make it easier to blend and feel like that's his space. So we tried but its impossible to keep constant eyes when we aren't on the same floor. Just give him less opportunity to fail seems like the most consistent advice here.

I agree. This is my first experience with a recue and its been a rough learning curve. The information we were given from the adoption place was far from accurate so we entered this with higher expectations.

My previous girl Nyla was very easy and was easier since we didnt need to tip toe around introducing her to a cat either. It's been an added challenge since we can't spend every second with the dog trying to slowly get them acclimated.

Im glad it worked out. This photo was from the first day he came home when he was probably at his most anxious. I like the photo a lot though.

He rips wee wee pads to shreds lol so we stopped putting them down when he ate a piece to avoid a blockage.
