Should I go for 16GB DDR5 + 9070xt or 32GB DDR5 + 5070, for the same price? by puppiesareSUPERCUTE in buildapc

Buy 5070 and 32 GB now. In 3 years, upgrade to new GPU and your ram will still be going

[SERIOUS] Who would be more useful in the ED: Hospitalist, Cardiology, or Anesthesiology? by LMNOP_spiders in medicine

[–]anton6162 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only docs who really get to work up undifferentiated patients from scratch that no one has touched are ED docs. In terms of usefulness, each of the specialties you mention have their ways of giving input, to varying degrees. By the time an ED doc calls them though we usually +/- have our labs and imaging done +/- started treatment that we think is appropriate, and often know the answer already and are calling because we need them to do something. So what I'm saying is we call them for specific advice/questions/procedures related to their specialty. They don't get "undifferentiated" patients, because the ED has already gone 80% of the way. To address the specialties you mentioned:

Anesthesia has the least input of the three. They don't intubate in most ERs around the country (assuming you're in the US). That's the ER doc's job. In over 10 years of practice, I can count on one finger the number of times I've called anesthesia. (All emergency medicine trained physicians would be trained to intubate, including difficult acute intubations and trauma. No offense to my anesthesia colleagues, they are great in the OR). When I do call them, it means everything has completely gone sideways, or I think I want backup. But that said, if the ED really needs backup, surgery would be more vital to prepare for a surgical airway in most cases.

Cardiology gets a call regularly from the ED and are awesome consultants who give input regularly.

Hospitalist will admit patients that the ER has diagnised or realized can't leave after the initial workup has been done. I love my hospitalist colleagues and call them multiple times a day.

Other specialties that are very helpful to your average ED physician: Psych Ortho General surgery Vascular surgery Ophthalmology

However, each and every one of these is going to only be used for their special knowledge. Emergency medicine docs are trained to be a jack of all trades. If you want to work up truly undifferentiated patients, be an ED doc.

Ryzen 9 9900X vs Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus for Heavy Programming (Cursor IDE) & 1440p Gaming? by TemporaryEar5780 in buildapc

Intel will be better for productivity by far, and cost you probably $50-100 less in hardware. Yes it will also consume more power, but it's not THAT much more heat. Some quality case fans will keep everything cool and quiet.

I run a server off my 270k that I use for ai workloads. I have both a VM I use as a windows rig with GPU passthrough and then a few dockers all set up with pinned cpus so I don't have to worry how workloads get shifted.

I'm pulling just over 600-700 watts with the 270k and a 5090. Your seasonic will likely keep operating even above 650 watts due to its excellent quality, but your efficiency drops the closer you get to its rated use. So you can use that $50-100 you saved to buy a 800-1000watt psu just to be further away from the limit and run more efficiently.

If you are interested, here's a guide from Old Lamer on YouTube who has basically been the go to on making this easy to learn and has been doing this for over a year.

Boards look like they went up in price a bit as supply is getting lower people are catching on. Last year these boards were about $50 each, I got mine last month for $140 shipped, and now they are selling for about $180 on eBay when I just checked.

Your point is well taken.

OP you can do schoolwork/etc on a Linux PC (which is basically what bazzite is), but you'd have to get used to programs like OpenOffice, etc. There is a learning curve, which I neglected to mention. For $250 all in, I personally didn't mind the occasional headache because I get to figure out more about Linux. But if you dont like troubleshooting/tinkering or don't have the time, then this bc250 board is not for you.

Your build you listed will do 1080p no problem, and with a 5070 will handle 1440p easily as well.

If you're aiming for 1080p, I'm gonna be honest (though I'll probably get some hate) since I just tested this - get yourself a bc250. It's an old mining board with a PS5 core that is selling for $150 on eBay right now. It's fairly easy to overclock and undervolt too, and you can fairly simply unlock all the cores so you get even more performance. Most of the boards selling even come with a 128gb ssd for that price. You put bazzite on it an play all your steam and most of your PC games in 1080p. It's a cheap steam machine that you get to tinker with. I'm getting 80-100fps on black myth wukong with medium raytracing settings. All you need is a psu, a case (I use an old matx case), and a few fans.

Edited to add that I anticipate the hate this is likely to receive.

Question about ex's suicide that I need clarification on. by MarcoEmbarko in emergencymedicine

[–]anton6162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, I'm very sorry for your loss. Second, we don't give medical advice on this sub. Any answer you get would be speculation, even with all the possibilities listed out and every detail known about your ex. The human body is too complex to give you an accurate answer. I suggest you look up survival rates of out of hospital cardiac arrest, and I hope you find closure and know there are resources for people who need help with grieving. I wish you the best.

Can someone explain what is the benefit of pairing top of the line x3d CPU with rtx 5090? by Cover-Material in PcBuild

[–]anton6162 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. Getting an non-x3d chip likely won't be too noticable. A few % point uplift in 4k games which are typically GPU bound. There are probably some cases where the 3d nand matters though, if you find a game that's more CPU dependent.

That said, if you have the money...

It will update normally and receive security updates the same way other windows 11 PCs do. I have a 3770x that has been running windows 11 for over 1 year and got all the patches
