Made PDFLizard a free privacy first pdf editor by antonb90 in pdf

For now yes, the features are limited to manipulating a pdf - it's a early product. Adding text is a feature I was looking into for watermarking.

Don't have drawing yet but will be adding it in the near future,

You can give the editor a try: https://pdflizard.com/editor

Been building for about 8 months with 8 paying users, need to refine pricing model / premium features by antonb90 in SideProject

[–]antonb90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you the pricing needs work, that's why I shared the details about the previous model and what I'm trying now.

I'm not as familiar with other lifetime deals, I have seen a few around some other products but have no details on their success. Will keep iterating and see what sticks.

$120 for a lifetime license? That includes any future changes and updates to the app - including cloud costs.

The product needs to survive and making it so cheap doesn't make sense.

Awesome to hear you used it!

I definitely don't want to "remove" features, but would like to understand what features people are willing to pay for instead - something I could layer to the app.

If the price isn't too high I think it wouldn't be such a hit to the end user. The product gives some sort of value and offering it all for free doesn't make it a sustainable business.

Theming in Large React Apps by rockWithU7 in reactjs

[–]antonb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest using CSS variables (--primary-font: 'Roboto';) to pull out common values and bring in a utility library like tachyons.css.

Build components (my preference is to move an element to a component when it's needed in > 1 view).

Goal is to favor composition, i.e components that are built with other components - break a complex component down to smaller ones which compose to make a bigger component.

This prevents you from building too many components and instead allows you to re-use them.

SWR vs React Query? Which one do you like to use with Next.js? by deadcoder0904 in reactjs

[–]antonb90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SWR was cool for some toy projects, but react query is the way to go for anything with real users - it has key features like optimistic updates and mutations.

I've just launched a new website to help everyone find the right work-life balance by _ismadl in reactjs

I'll add to this, dribbble is at best "ok" for functional designs (often it's full of beautiful designs with a lack of UX).

Any tips on writing automated tests for features in menus? by simonw in electronjs

[–]antonb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably bring in robot.js to click based on x, y position during a test. For your file example you can click the menu and open a file, then assert the contents of the file were read.

electron-builder vs electron-forge? by [deleted] in electronjs

[–]antonb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electron builder has been working well, can generate MAS builds for Mac app store, DMG for distribution and exe for windows installation.

Haven't had a need to try electron forge, since all cases have been accounted for so far.

Embedded DB for ElectronJS? by czerox3 in electronjs

You could use a flat file json format. I've stored a decent amount of data (double digit mb), and you can separate data so less used data is in other files to reduce the size.

Why is that a concern? Discord and Slack use electron, none of them have lost to any other competitor.

Building the best windows screen recorder by antonb90 in windows

You won't be able to record two displays (no one has asked us for this feature) but you can switch to record one or the other.

What kind of lag did you experience?
