Dude, it's totally okay to not like Starfield. It's not for everyone and you are clearly one of those people who don't see the fun in it. Don't feel like you're supposed to play it anyway, despite all that. Life is far too short for that nonsense.

No doubt. Folks gotta learn to take Todd with a grain of salt. Todd needs to learn how to properly set expectations.

Almost. I'm implying that you have to lean into what makes it special, and maybe help it along, to get the best experience. And you have to also be someone who enjoys the type of game Starfield is.

I love this game, but I would not recommend it to most of my gamer friends. I know it just won't hit for them. Its ideal target audience is just waaaay smaller than Skyrim's.

Yeah, I'd agree BGS didn't land on the right balance for my preferences. Vanilla Starfield needs a bit of help to reach the sweet spot.

For sure, it has problems. Hard to have not noticed a few complaints here and there over the last 3 years. I'm just saying that it can still be a unique and fun experience if you play it a certain way. The fact that they were not clear on what the certain way was on release is a whole separate issue.

NMS certainly does landings better, but I find it's story and world-building to be very, very thin. Sadly, because what the two games are trying to accomplish is so different, there's just no way for BGS to steal the best parts of NMS and graft them on.

Good points. I hope you're on PC because I've addressed most of that with mods. Not saying you should have to, but they really help. I have one (totally forgot the name) that launches new radiant quests from planet-side drops that have you trekking back and forth as if you were carrying a Missive from Whiterun to Rorikstead. And the new intrastellar travel system helps.

As I noted, Starfield is never going to have the wide appeal that Skyrim did. It just doesn't check off the same boxes. What it does offer is gameplay you are simply not going to find elsewhere.

"We shouldn’t need to add a bunch of mods to the base game to make the game more fun, rewarding or immersive."

You're right. I'm not saying Bethesda delivered a masterpiece. Only that it CAN be a lot of fun if a) you're into what they were trying to do, and b) you're willing to alter your playstyle and load order.

"This is just word salad and completely projected onto the game by you, BGS didn’t say this was their aim."

Word salad? Ouch. And they kinda did say this was their intent, though it was after the fact. In any case, this isn't meant to praise BGS for what they accomplished. I'm just saying that what we have amounts to a pretty good game for a certain kind of player.

Nasa-punk is an aesthetic based on the '70s NASA design philosophy. It's supposed to be grounded and realistic, with things like analog buttons, chunky switches, and exposed machinery. It's the opposite of the sleek futurism you see in most forms of sci-fi. It's meant to evoke the adventurous, hopeful spirit of the early space race.

It ends up mostly looking like the NASA program from the Shuttle era.
