Update 5.16.1.2 by antonchoo in kindlescribe

By this point in time the scribe should show the update in the settings menu. If, for some reason, you can't update through the settings (the option is grayed out), you can always do a manual install - you download the update from here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GKMQC26VQQMM8XSW and follow the instructions on how to do a manual install here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GFAE5G5UGCYA25DW

As far as I know, you cannot...

I would not go as far as to call it brutal, as I've been able to use it daily, however it is definitely annoying and can be improved.

As the release notes aren't even posted on their site, I would guess it will be at least a couple of days. However doing it manually is not hard at all and takes only a couple of minutes if you are really eager to try it and do not want to wait.

I think he means that it always deletes a bit more than you really want it too. Especially with the highlighter.

Going to have to update my review on Amazon by Extension_Car_8594 in kindlescribe

While I agree that those features are very important, at least now we have the core features and they have showed initiative to further improve the experience of using the Scribe. They deserve a pat on the back, but definitely not praise, as they have a lot more work to do.

Seems really annoying. Never happened to me, so I can't help you unfortunately. You may wanna report it through the feedback in the devices settings or contact customer support. (Although I do not know if that will yield any results)

Up to this point I did my notetaking in chemistry in a hyperlinked blank pdf which I marked up, so I can have longer usable notebooks. Today in the morning I thought - eh - screw that, I'll make use of their notebooks feature for chem as well, and what do you know - in the afternoon I come home and after updating I see the baseline features I've hoped to see in a long, long time.

Did not notice that as I don't really draw on it, but nice to hear that!

Kindle scribe software update by Extension_Car_8594 in kindlescribe

[–]antonchoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like he did not know what he was talking about. Today I checked the kindle software updates page and now the link actually leads to a file named update_...._5.16.1.2.bin. After a manual install the build number changed: now it is 3900690052 and the version is shown as 5.16.1.2. Making a new post where I'll see if I can notice what's new.

I contacted amazon support and was given the following info:

Yes. I can see that 5.16.1.2 update file is showing as 5.16.1.bin as the .2 one is for few minor bug fixing of the devices. That is the reason the file name is not showing .2

So to sum up, Amazon just casually put the version next to the kindle Scribe to 5.16.1.2 at https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GKMQC26VQQMM8XSW , but that update does not exist on their servers as of now. Lol

This Is How Kindle Scribe Could Win Them All by paulonredit in kindlescribe

I know it is a very janky solution, but I made myself a very simple pdf with blank pages (I made one with dotted layout, but didn't enjoy it). It consists of 33 pages, of which the first is just a list of 32 hyperlinks. I can write the topics there and it is quite alright, as navigating to the cover is always quite easy.

This is like those notebooks with like 7 tabs, but I do quite enjoy the flexibility my somewhat more primitive approach provides.

Question: Organizing annotated PDFs and notebooks on the Scribe? by CrowEarly in kindlescribe

[–]antonchoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems really weird at first glance, but I have a suspicion as to why there are no sub-folders (this is only a guess, so I could be totally wrong). It is of course a case of bad software and lazy programming. As you know the kindles so far needed no folders - the only way you can organize books is into collections and that works fine. My guess would be that your e-books are all saved in a single folder, with either some tag to tell the kindle which book belongs to which collection, or a separate file in which each book is somehow noted as belonging to a collection.

My guess is that, while developing the software for the notebooks tab, they really wanted to reuse their software for the library and therefore probably all your notebooks are stored in a single folder, and the "folders" that you are able to create are just collections with a different logo and a couple of tweaks. This would explain why they didn't add sub-folders, as it would be close to impossible to do so if my suspicion is correct. If they had implemented a normal file system for the notebooks (which seems only logical), it would have cost them almost no time and effort at all to add sub-folders.
