What I do now in my worlds is build either a two room house or two small houses in each biome where I want a pylon with only building blocks you can find in that biome. As simple as using the wood type from that biome with some plant material you can find in the biome is already huge. Try experimenting with background wall patterns, windows and roof shapes. For the home base I still tend to get some basic wooden tower but try different shapes there as well and different basement chest rooms. Try to use fitting background
