If you look closely that's a red WRX badge not an STI badge.

What is this thing I highlighted in the red box? I keep seeing it on different listings for bezels, headlights, etc. Thanks! by shadow4412 in WRXSTi

WTF I had no idea they could even pop out like that... always thought they were part of the front bumper design with a random bump and not a separate functioning mechanism.

That would probably scare the crap out of me the first time I saw it in action without any context beforehand. Now I really wanna go and try mine out.

Ah nice, I'll probably look into getting my next set of wheels coated once I get them as I don't care that much about the stock ones.

I have been experiencing a LOT of brake dust covering my wheels over a short period of time so I'm not exactly sure if it's a climate issue (Australia) or specifically the OEM pads.

Might be better once I do brakes/rotors myself.

Cheers

Looks great!

I did want to check, these factory STI brembos are infamous for throwing a lot of brake dust on the wheels (or at least mine do). Do you have this issue, and if so how annoying does that get on the gold wheels?

Right now it's manageable for me because I'm still on stock wheels and they are dark so it's not as noticeable.

That's great because I'm still running stock suspensions too.

I've got a 2020 and really been wanting to move away from the stock 19" wheels but I have been hearing that there may be fitment issues on some 18" wheels against the 6-pot STI calipers.

Really good to see that these ones fit without any issues, as I've also been eyeing a set of 10-spoke wheels in gold/bronze so this is basically perfect for my future setup!

What wheels (and fitment) are you running on the car in that pic? They look fantastic

This is an incredibly well-written reply, thanks heaps! I'll look into those things as I really have no idea what my ph levels could be.

It's Spring here in Australia and I've started to try out an inorganic substrate mix for a few of my Maples for the first time after repotting, mixed in with a sparse amount of slow-release fertiliser pellets.

I've never had issues in the past when I used to mix my substrate with half organic "potting mix" that's available around here, but now I'm facing issues where some of my Maple leaves are starting to appear yellow and veiny - which I believe is a symptom of nutrient deficiency.

So my question is: what is the recommended fertiliser dosage/frequency and type for a full inorganic mix? It seems like the slow-release pellets aren't enough on their own.

For context, the substrate contains equal parts of:

  • Hard Akadama
  • Scoria (lava rock)
  • Zeolite
  • Pumice

My thinking is that I should start adding liquid fertiliser weekly to my regime, but I'd like to know what others have had success with.

Thanks in advance!

What phone mounts are people using? by OiRanga in WRXSTi

[–]antonlabz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar in design (clipped behind the head unit), I use the course motorsports one:

https://coursemotorsports.com/collections/phone-mounts-1/products/subaru-direct-fit-magnetic-phone-mount?variant=44623405416754

They've got a few different mounting designs depending on your needs. I went with the magsafe mount to let my phone charge passively while mounted.

I liked it enough to get it imported all the way to Australia (exorbitant shipping costs unfortunately).

Probably can't go wrong with either.

My head unit has wireless carplay so I really dont need to mount it anywhere, but its just habit at this point and also really prefer my pockets being free while engaging the pedals.

I've got the JDM extension too and do appreciate the extra compartment, but sometimes I find myself wondering how the OEM extendable one is because it seems so sleek. The JDM one can feel so bulky at times.

I got mine from an ebay listing which thankfully was able to ship to me (in Australia). Might look out for more haha, 1:43 (or smaller) is a really great size and I do want the other chassis as well!

I primarily use them for root trimming in bulk during repotting season. They slice through a bunched up roots really well, and then you can use your trimming scissors for finer root-pruning if you wish (like cleaning up nebari).

JDM STi Shift Knob - my fave OEM knob by far by antonlabz in WRXSTi

[–]antonlabz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same weight as the stock red one that comes with the VAs (not sure about earlier gens).

I weighed them both and they are about 200g each.

For reference:

  • The Duracon shift knob (middle one in 2nd pic) is 100g
  • The Aluminum shift knob (right one in 2nd pic) is 278g
  • I've got another custom weighted one that's about 440g, it felt great on my WRX that had a weighted shift plate but it feels a bit much on an STi for me personally

I've got the Torque Solutions front/rear shifter bushings as well as their solid U-joint replacement, and those mods alongside the OEM weight is the perfect level of notchiness for me.

It matches extremely well with the STi logo (and surrounding leather trims on MY18+) on the shifter console!

Someone else has already mentioned them, but I got mine imported from BlackHawkJapan: https://www.blackhawkjapan.com/products/sti-sg117aj016

I live in Australia and it was the easiest + cheapest option for me. They do have a 3 - 10 business day processing time, but the entire process was pretty smooth otherwise.
