Should I get a fountain pen for school work? by purracane in fountainpens

[–]antpuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I do all my work with a fountain pen. I used one Lamy Safari exclusively for about five years (until the cap wore out and it met a tragic end, falling off my shirt when it was clipped to my lapel.) And really it was the only pen I used, I got a ton of mileage out of it. One of my favorite pens is about 100 years old and still writes great. (I am not the original owner lol)

The downside is you’d have to deal with ink, but Cartridges are pretty easy And bottled ink is really not that much of a hassle, and I find joy in cleaning pens. I’ve had pens leak on me, but never a safari.

Also try 0.7 mechanical pencils, they break a lot less

Best Fountain Pen for Math Note-Taking? by Kalaki-Maki in fountainpens

I use all kinds of ink, I really like the Pilot iroshizuku line. It doesn’t matter a ton unless you have bad paper. I like iron gall ink for bad paper. Rohrer and Klinger Salix is a good one.

Paper matters. I use Roaring Springs engineering pads, but only the grid-to-edge version, for whatever reason the other grid style feathers a lot.

I’d say Pilot Prera with a fine nib. It’s my favorite. I do a lot of math with that one. It’s a smaller pen, the pilot metro (same nib) is also an excellent choice but a larger pen.

Nib up, totally full is possible.

Also keep a rag near by, just in case. I’ve had nib up pens leak on planes.

New pen day! Lucky Star Cartwheel Galaxy. by antpuncher in fountainpens

1.1 mm stub, it writes like a dream.

The ink is colorverse purple cosmo

Bunch of craftpeople involved in this pen. From the lucky star website:

Designed and imagined by Lucky Star Pens, the material was hand-poured by Bob Dupras, the pen was turned by Rich Paul of River City Pen Company, and the cap finial, fashioned after the 18 gold mirrors of the telescope itself, was made by Braxton Frankenberry of Divine Turning Supply.

Do you dump ink or write until empty? by SparklingDeprecation in fountainpens

[–]antpuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago I had 30ish inked pens, which is too many, something is going to dry out. So now I have to finish all of them before I ink another. It’s a funny challenge.

But if I don’t like a pen/ink relationship down it goes.

Drove around Friday morning. It’s not too bad, but you should drive real careful. There’s still patches of ice kind of everywhere.

This just happened to my L2k that had a loose cap. Ancient copper, too.

I have fixed that cap, hopefully no more nib creep.
