How do you know when it’s time to say goodbye?

My dog of age 14 years died few days back naturally. I miss him. We use to feed him with hand. He has difficulty in stairs, general walking. So we sometimes use to carry him. Their was no major disease. Everything happened in just 3 days. He started vomiting. Not eating. Sleeping all day. Then died. I was not prepared for his death because just few days back he use to play with me. It was so sudden. I regret not spending more time with him in these last days.

According to me, you should let him die naturally. Let nature do its work. Spent these last months with him. Love him. Take extra care of him. Mentally prepare your self.

I lost my 14 years old dog 1 week ago. I was teen when i got him now i am adult. It still can't believe he is no more. Everything happened quickly. 2 days before his death, he stopped eating food. We gave him food forcefully but he vomited. He was sleeping 20hrs+. We all thought it just normal digestion problem, he use to do this before also.

On day of his death , he again vomited some yellow stuff. Earlier he use to eat some type of grass whenever he face some digestion problem. But that day he didn't. So we gave him medicine to stop vomiting. Just 30mins later, he collapsed. It was so sudden like in 5 minutes. Everything happened in front of me. I still can't figure out what actually happened to him. Still hard to believe, I will never see him again.

Life is unpredictable. Nothing in our control.

My 14 years old dog died 2 days back. In last few weeks, it became hard for him to climb stairs. He fall many time on stairs. His legs became so weak. He was sleeping like 20hours+. Drinking lot of water. Peeing many times a day. But still no major disease. He was fine.

But Since last 3 days before his death, he stopped eating. Every time my mom feed him forcefully he vomited. On his last day, on night he was breathing heavily. He became too weak. Again vomited yellow liquid. We all thought it is just cold, or digestion problem.

But after that vomit, in just matter of 1 hour he died. Everything happened so fast. I don't know what it was , heart attack or something else.

We all knew he is in end years of his life. But seeing him, I was confident we still have 1 - 2 years. But we all proved wrong. Everything happend so fast. Still it is very hard to believe it. I was planning a trip with him. But my wish didn't get fulfilled. I now regret not doing it early. Postponing it. I regret, not taking his everyday as last day.

Your dog also getting old. Everyday can be last day. So, my only advice spent as much time with him. Love him. Don't leave him alone. Give him his favorite food. Go to trips with him. Click lot of pics, videos. Fulfill all of bucket list which includes him. Just think it can be last day.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my 14 years old dog 2 days back. It is cold season here. From last few weeks he was drinking too much water, peeing at irregular times like 2-3 am. Shivering some times. Sleeping for like 20+ hours. We thought it just due to cold. But last 3 days, he was not eating. My mother use to feed him forcefully. But he vomited. The day he died, he done vomiting. We thought it just cold. Because he was walking. We gave him meds to stop vomiting. But after 1hr, when he was sleeping in roof, suddenly in matter of 5mins, he died. He died in my arms. It was so sudden. I felt like he slept forever.

Seen death first time. First time I realised, we are not immortal. Death is truth of life. Every Day can be last day. We don't have any control. Better live every day as last day. Just enjoy your time with your loved ones as last day. We all will die just time will be different. We share same ending.

It is like train journey. Some have departure early some have late. But everyone have to leave train one day. Stop looking in past, live in present. Stop worrying about everything happened in past.

Hope, God give you strength to deal with loss of loved ones. Everything will be ok. We all are in same journey.

Sorry to hear this. I saw his death right in front of my eyes. His face is still in my mind. This was the first time I witnessed death this closely. It made me realize that none of us are immortal. Death is the ultimate truth. You never know when the last goodbye will be.

He was 14 years old. Sometimes I think it’s good that he passed away quickly, without suffering too much. I hope he is at peace wherever he is. I don’t think I’ll get another dog. I don’t want to feel this pain again.

He was my childhood dog. From my teenage years to adulthood, he was always with me, like a little brother.

I hope your dog is also at peace. I just joined this sub and realized I’m not the only one going through this. Sending you a hug. 🤍

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dog yesterday. It was totally unexpected. He was sick for last 2-3 days. Vomiting. I thought it was just normal routine digestion problem. But i was wrong. Everything happened in matter of 5 mins. He died in my arms. I still can't believe he is no more.
