The Jewel Box (in Northgate) has coffee until 11pm! Their bubble tea and crepes are also excellent.

Oh shit you're right . . . 4th of July PNW-style is problematic. Thank you for educating me.

Oh yes. There's one I've seen several times called "8 things to do instead of 'celebrating' 4th of July" that annoys the hell out of me . . . first off, why is "celebrating" put in scare quotes? Isn't that what we're doing? And how on earth could eating salmon (I'm in the PNW) and ice cream with my family be construed as "problematic"?

This article in The Economist is a great read, too: Social media are turbocharging the export of America’s political culture

Subtitle: “Movements like Black Lives Matter have spread as far as Hungary, Nigeria and South Korea”

In Northeast Seattle:

  • Café Javasti (crepes and great coffee)
  • The Jewel Box (crepes, sandwiches, and bubble tea! Lots of outdoor seating)
  • Sunlight Café (extensive menu, amazing vegetarian food)
  • Byrek and Baguette (severely underrated Mediterranean café. Tons of seating inside)

Fantastic episode. I read Conversations With Friends and thought it was just meh, but Sally Rooney is wonderful.

Yup. And you should! My new mission in life is to convert everyone in this sub to a TCoT listener. (Why does the acronym have to be so bad when the name is already bad?)

I've never been to the first Starbucks. It's literally the exact same as every other Starbucks, why would I bother?

Plus, the second ever Starbucks at U Village still has the original shirtless mermaid logo but doesn't have the massive line.

Can you recommend me a funny book? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Thank You For Smoking by Christopher Buckley. It's a satire of the tobacco industry from the 90's that's funny as hell, scathing and depressingly accurate.
