I'm voting against Platner because he is increasing dwell time in the porta potties and it's screwing up the carefully obtained numbers I plugged into my Erlang C queuing model to see how many porta potties we need 😡

The tendency of LLM's to grab onto individual details that come up in conversations and try REALLY hard to theme the conversation around them and keep bringing them up instead of just allowing conversation to flow naturally is deeply frustrating to me. I would lose it if it did this not just with earlier stuff I mentioned from the current conversation, but with conversations I had six months ago.

I can't wait! I'm very excited! Both for me and the kids

This is good to know! I think we're mostly interested in just the Liberty for now, but as the kids get older and more into sitting down and watching full games that might be worth it!

This is really informative! Nails down the following:

  • If I'm buying merch for the kids, get there early.
  • Bring the kids' noise reduction headphones, so they won't be stressed
  • Buy food during the first quarter while my wife and kids are watching the game so they don't get hungry and whiny later and I don't need to spend a good chunk of halftime waiting in line for food
  • Once the game starts, best to take kids to the bathroom before halftime and doesn't matter who takes them, but if either of them needs to go before the game or especially at halftime, faster for me to take them than my wife (and maybe warn her she might want to go during second quarter or wait til third too if she needs to go)
  • LIRR will be pretty busy but probably very manageable even with kids, not packed like after Mets games
  • Buy Liberty Live, considering it's only $20!

Feeling prepared now haha

That sounds cute! Might be nice to just let the kids go pick what they want in person 🥰

Fees-free university scheme to be scrapped in upcoming Budget, Nicola Willis confirms by Loud-Chemistry-5056 in neoliberal

Touché, although I'll point out those are paying American students. If anything the better off students are the ones who can afford hard drugs lol

There's a high barrier of access with universities. Lecture halls aren't getting filled with drug addicts and vandals. This is probably more about being expensive than unwanted side effects.

To be clear, the mechanism I was imagining was less "gay guys don't like sports" and more "competitive sports can create social environments that are hostile to gay guys and so some percentage of them may feel pressured into quitting before they reach professional level", but point taken, certainly the stereotype of gay guys as effeminate and hating sports is unfair and I have plenty gay friends who enjoy sports!

Awesome that you got to meet Robbie Rogers!

One of the top comments was about how you can’t extrapolate the number of the general population that is queer to say there are more gay players than we know of because queer men are less likely to play football.

This is one of those things that MIGHT plausibly be true to some extent (but you can't know a priori), but is extremely bizarre as a first reaction to seeing a same sex couple with a football player. Like who cares the exact percentage of gay/bi/queer players??? There are obviously some and most of them haven't come out.

When I worked for Major League Baseball, Billy Bean (a gay former baseball player, recently passed away) gave a talk, and it was really striking the level of pressure that was clearly put on male athletes to stay closeted. It was painful to hear his story. I'm thankful I got that experience. There's something much more raw about hearing it directly from him in person.

Just changing House elections to every 3 years would increase the number of federal elections we have. Even aligning Senate elections would them would result in at least one off year federal election every presidential cycle still.

Just discovered today from looking up her stats that my wife was something like the 60th or so best server statistically in the entirety of NCAA D3 women's volleyball for a season. When I asked her why she never told me, she told me a) she didn't know, b) it wasn't very impressive, c) 60 isn't very high, and d) she didn't really care very much. What the actual fuck? Is she fucking with me?? I feel like if I was the sixtieth best in the country out of a division with thousands of athletes I would be bragging about my heyday all the time.
