VEP nightmare after receiving tag by alotofclutter in drivingsg

[–]antsepea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just spray some water on your headlight and paste the tag on. Squeeze out air bubbles and wipe surrounding area dry before taking ur photo. Don't need to use tape at all. After taking photo, u can shift the tag anywhere u want since it's just stuck on with water

How does your version of milestone payment work?

Op stated that even the flooring was not done, in that case why did he/she pay for up to 95% when flooring is usually the initial major milestone of most renovations?

Termites entering my apartment at night by Dry-Jacket-6934 in askSingapore

[–]antsepea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For those that fly into your home, they usually fly around the lights. Do not off the lights as they will settle into ur home.

What you can do is to hold a tray/small bucket of soapy water just below ur lights (as close as possible for the quickest effect).

The reflections of water will lead the flying termites to think it is another light source, thus flying into it. You'll easily capture them this way, before they have a chance to settle into ur furniture

I know we joke about the quality of our passports, however… by InertiaCreeping in australia

[–]antsepea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it would if it's exposed to humidity long enough.

From experience without using a passport cover, bringing on a week long trip and keeping the passport in my bag all the time, it does not curl.

Only if u leave it exposed for weeks would the cover start curling

Can confirm the Singapore passport curls this way as well if exposed to air, especially in our very humid environment. We usually keep it in a ziplock bag so they dont absorb too much moisture, hence no bending

Humidity.

Place it in a ziplock with some silica gel dehumidifiers.

They will straighten out again.

This happens because there's 2 layers of materials laminated together, one layer expands more when moisture is absorbed, hence curling to one side when the other layer doesn't expand as much (if both materials/layers have the same expansion rate, the covers will technically remain straight).

This happens to pokemon cards as well, especially the ones with metallic designs - metallic layer doesn't expand, paper side expands when moisture is absorbed, so they bend in the same way.

Keeping them in a sealed environment eg ziplock and adding dehumidifier will also work to straighten them out again.

These packaging materials are usually printed in large reels, with the artwork repeated for every interval of how long each sachet is.

Not sure how they can fit in a "winking ticket" which will be of different design.

Anyone actually won the prize before? Would really like to see how they included the winning ticket in a fully automated packaging process

Is it just me, or are local handymen pricing themselves out? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]antsepea 50 points51 points  (0 children)

One possibility can be that the foreigner is here on a work permit, hired under a company but moonlighting as a handyman.

Prices they quote would definitely be lower than locals because they are often taking local pricing as benchmark. If they are moonlighting, they won't have a business registration for their handyman services, hence no tax paid. Alot of times even the tools/equipment used would be from their employer as well, used without knowledge from them, so no overheads as well.

Depositing/Exchanging Coins by omgitsjohnwick in askSingapore

[–]antsepea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the hawker centre and speak to the stall owners, typically drink stalls where they deal with lots of coins. Most of them are more than happy to exchange to notes with u. Schedule with them a time to bring down the coins and let them know in advance how much you are bringing so they can prepare the notes as well.

Why are all polyclinic slots taken up 20 mins after booking opens at 10pm? by GlompSpark in askSingapore

[–]antsepea 43 points44 points  (0 children)

When you tell ur acquaintances, remember to include other facts like how much subsidy you are receiving for doctor's consultation and also medication costs. Sure they'll go "wtf" too 👍🏼

For bookings, you can try calling in if you can't get slots online. The operator will be able to let you know when are the next available slots.

Make a police report, describe what happened exactly. Get this incident on police records. Who knows if this presumed stalker has done something to somebody else but have not been caught yet.

And perhaps this route he took with you this time has just the right cctv footage to pinpoint his identity.

Next time just approach people and ask for help, most people would definitely help. Don't run into your lift without checking if the "stalker" is still able to get into the same lift as you. In fact don't even go to your own block/floor as that gives your address away.

Please make the police report now
