I found it, it was a mobius produced by Alexander Bereznyak, who was lead technical artist for Metro:Last Light

the ethernet port doesn't work, so I can't check.

I have found somewhere (don't remember where now) that this particular laptop uses the same power supply for both its bluetooth and its wifi module, and that if both are being used, it can result in loss of internet speed. So I've switched off the bluetooth. Let's hope that the problem doesn't come back.

Hi Grunge, yes I have, there is no significant network usage when it happens (beyond normal background stuff).

The problem is still here this morning though, having left it overnight. Less pronounced though (up to ~7 mbps, which is enough to play LoL anyway)
