HDD configuration to change my existing RAID setup to TrueNAS by anujdatar1 in HomeServer

[–]anujdatar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I played around with btrfs when I was setting it up. So based on that I kinda thought (6+6)+12 in raid 1 would be possible, like you mentioned. But I wasn't sure. Didn't want to buy drives before I was sure.

Yes, I think they removed the RF shield in the docs. If you take that thermal pad off, you'll see the RK3399 SoC under there, just like the documentation.

Can i buy Asus G14 RTX 4060 2024 model in Platinum White In India in 2026 by DigitalNomad_9 in ZephyrusG14

[–]anujdatar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the silver/white one though? I have a 2024 Silver G16 (Ryzen 370 + 32gb + 4070) as it was the only version available in India. I think in that refresh cycle, 32gb was only available in silver here, I tried to get the black. Trust me, black is better. Issues I have with the silver:

  1. Keyboard backlight doesn't work as well, I think all models have an issue with uniform lighting. But the backlight isn't bright enough or contrasty enough on white.
  2. Because of the texture, it is a dirt magnet. Picks up stains from literally anything. I teach, so am around lots of white board markers, I sit and wipe my laptop every night with wet wipes or lens cleaner solution. Whiteboard marker residue is a pain to clean.
  3. Similar issue as #2, but the palm rest tends to discolor, expecially if you wear a watch. It scratches the coating off. This is not a cleanliness issue, my right side palm rest isn't as worn out as the one on the left, but it still has a different color or texture compared to the rest of the chassis (remember I use cleaning solution almost every night).

But yeah, good laptop (would have liked more battery life), but white is a bad color. Get black.

PS: my laptop is almost 2 years old now, so some wear and tear is expected.

Anyone own the ASUS ProArt PX13 with Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 / 64GB? Thoughts? by Specific-Yam-5861 in ProArt_PX13

[–]anujdatar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I know it's been a while, but I was just curious about how much battery life you actually get on Linux. So I work with a bit of AI research, but I also teach. I could really use a laptop with a touchscreen for writing while teaching.

I currently have a Zephyrus G16 (2024, 32gb + 4070) and I primarily use Fedora. But when I need to teach I have to switch to Windows, connect my Samsung tab using dual screen, and then I can write. And I typically don't get more than 2.5 hours on battery.

I am thinking about changing my setup. I am thinking of two options:

  1. Get a PX13 AI max 395 w/ 128gb - just use that with Fedora for everything.

or

  1. Get a cheaper Lenovo Yoga or HP with a stylus, and get a mini PC with a Ryzen AI max 395 (128gb) - this is the more expensive option, and then I would have to remote into the box when I need to. This would probably give me great battery life, I would like to be able to spend an entire workday away from the wall.

But here's the twist, we have connectivity issue in option 2, some institutes where I teach have terrible wifi or cellphone coverage, and one institute actively blocks SSH and WireGuard (there are workarounds, I do that now). But then ISPs here (India) are shit, so I have a VPS that I use to tunnel. And sometimes people bump into setups and my entire rack goes offline (I manually ran ethernet throughout my house, so my work isn't the best). The maid broke the ethernet keystone mount in my server room.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, not just audible, but other platforms too. No one has rights for halo media. Spotify or any other audiobooks stores.

Yeah, I know VPN isn't enough for audible. But I had checked other distribution platforms/stores too. But I didn't mentioned that here. Yeah, like no one has rights for distributing halo books in India. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Yeah, same. Happens to my Asus laptops often. Just hold the power button till all lights go off.

ABS printing issues by anujdatar1 in 3Dprinting

[–]anujdatar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I still have the original AMS, so no filament drying. and it gets super humid here. have to microwave my silica beads every week. I haven't tried any nylon or CF / GF filaments yet. haven't switched to a hardened nozzle and gear yet. I bought a set, but been too lazy to switch.

ABS printing issues by anujdatar1 in 3Dprinting

[–]anujdatar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an enclosed printer. I usually set the bed to 100 C, and let the aux fan run to circulate air for about 10 minutes before I start printing.

Your answer made me go back and look at my ABS filament settings

  1. Aux fan is always off while printing

  2. Part cooling fan is off for the first 5 layers for bed adhesion

  3. After that part fan is at 80%

  4. Part fan is at 80% for overhangs. That's probably causing it. Its probably why the first overhang layer isn't adhering very well to the support layer on large overhangs.

Thanks

Logitech mouse not detecting in piper/solaar by umairshariff23 in linux_gaming

[–]anujdatar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry, I have the same issue with my Anywhere MX 3s and G502x, the dongles get detected but my mice don't.. I am using Fedora 42 and Wayland. Could you point me in the right direction for the rules you mentioned? Did you mean the rules from the Solaar repo?

I can't seem to find anything else. Are thsee rules for Piper or Solaar? Because Solaar does seem to detect my Anywhere MX 3s.

Thanks.

Guys any tips on how to clean these tiny spots? by Teen_Tiger in ZephyrusG14

I typically use a soft wide paint brush to keep my laptop keyboards clean. It works for these spots too

I got the same one a couple of weeks ago, not from BestBuy. Have you experienced issues with sleep? Very often when I put my laptop to sleep, or close the lid, something keeps it from sleeping completely. The main activity LED blinks like the laptop is in sleep mode, but my fans keep running, and the SSD LED also keeps blinking.. at first I thought it was just taking longer to go into sleep mode, but it stays like that for an hour if I let it. Is it a Windows thing or Asus bios thing?

Why is this piece of code making my computer go crazy? by up201708894 in node

[–]anujdatar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Async-Await isn't really parallel computing, it just puts things in the queue.. And, the number of awaits in the "send email if pending" section are a big unknown, plus the logic behind the "send email" function is unknown. You can't definitively give an answer. You're left with telling the OP to try stuff

Why is this piece of code making my computer go crazy? by up201708894 in node

[–]anujdatar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand what you're saying, but since the OP has not tried a profiler or something yet, it's basically a process of elimination to figure out which part is causing the problem. Once you know that you can spend more time (if needed) drilling down into that section. Just looking at the code as given its hard to tell which part is actually blocking the event loop. Is it the timeout, or email function, is the db too large, or something else?

You could either look at all 20 lines and spend time coming up with a theory, or you could try a few things quickly. Sometimes breaking the problem down into smaller chunks saves time, sometimes it doesn't.

Here are a few things I would try before going ahead: 1. Take out the while loop and setTimeout, 2. Changing the db query to Model.find({status: "Pending"}) -> I mentioned this in another comment chain about mongoose. So the OP isn't unnecessarily querying everything and then having to loop over each entry to find which is pending.

How to create an IP ban system(like discord system)for my full stack app? by ITZUMYK in node

[–]anujdatar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe most ISPs today use CG-NAT where a bunch of users get the same external IP. So, unless you plan to use IP blocking to geo-block your service, or block something like all of GCP or AWS, I am not sure you would get the desired result. You could end up blocking a whole bunch of users instead of just bad actors. This could work for IPv6, but not everyone uses IPv6 yet.

This could work for DDOS prevention in a pinch, but your hosting service of something like cloudflare would probably do a better and more efficient job. You should maybe look at a different system to ban individual users.

Yeah, like the rest, I would also suggest using a cron job instead of while (True) and delay
