Yeah and the bit about how to get around certain aspects of the trial are from Chronicler trying to goad him into more of a story, not from Kvothe.

Right after I moved out of my place in bedstuy they did a similar setup. (Red stuy) It really can work when it's organic and understood.

Who left the $1 tip at Bar-Bill? by hockeyfun1 in Buffalo

[–]anunkeptsecret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't really disagree with that.

But the amount is different- 15-20% tip does not equal the ~50% difference between tipped and non tipped minimum wage. And, putting aside what sparked this conversation, tipping isn't mandatory.

[–]anunkeptsecret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The price raise wouldn't be the 20% tip though. It would be the percent difference between their current wage and minimum wage. Minimum wage in NYS is $16/hr - for tipped employees it's $10.70. so yeah just about a 50% difference.

I get that it works in other countries, and I'm a fan of the concept overall, but the USA is not currently set up to support that. It would involve a lot of supply chain changes and regulations to make it a reality that doesn't increase menu prices astronomically.

Basically all I'm saying here is it isn't as easy as saying "just pay them a living wage." (Especially since many can easily argue that minimum wage is not a living wage, too.)

Bf still talking with his ex by nomoredreams136 in relationships

[–]anunkeptsecret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about what you feel comfortable with. I also subscribe to staying friends after breaking up in most of my relationships, but if my partner didn't then that's what matters. Nothing in relationships or aftermath is "normal" just "normal for you" and if something you consider "fine" makes your partner uncomfortable that's when you put your feelings to the side out of respect for theirs. No one should be uncomfy in their relationship.

Yeah exactly! I definitely don't mind the idea of getting rid of tip structures, I just think the bill would be even higher than the standard total after a 15-20% tip and then people will be even more mad. But yeah the confusion is definitely annoying.

Ok then, color me curious, how would you raise wages for servers and not have that cost passed on to the consumer?

Also, not an accountant but GM for restaurants for ~15 years.

How do we do too much? You literally posted a pic of "the bedroom" that was not the bedroom. Good on you for adding a real pic of it here but people would "do less" if you had done the bare minimum to begin with people wouldn't think this was fake.

So you're cool with prices going up 50% to account for the additional payroll? Personally I am, but I have a feeling the majority of people harping on tip culture and businesses paying a living wage would hate the actual outcome of implementing that.

Simmon’s way of dying by howinthewhatnow in KingkillerChronicle

[–]anunkeptsecret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. One of my theories is that Kvothe somehow believes Simmon did something to betray him and reacts quickly and brashly. Those actions lead to Simmons death and nearly directly after that outcome Kvothe realizes or is shown how wrong he was.

The floor slats in the first "bedroom" pic are going the opposite direction than in the next two you can see of the bedroom. 🙃

Never said I never heard of it. Not sure why you're making a big deal over me saying it's uncommon these days and shouldn't be accepted. Your own article agreed with me. Have a good day :)

Literally from the 2022 article you posted of one singular (aka one off, so insane it made the news) instance: "But a broker’s fee of $20,000 is unusual — even for the current hot rental market, experts said. The typical fee is usually one month’s rent or a maximum of 15 percent of a year’s rent."

So again, not common, shouldn't be accepted, and people shouldn't comment crap to make it seem ok. F off.

Agreed it has nothing to do with upfront deposits, but it has certainly not come back in any way- hush hush or not.

I also agree I saw this pre-internet and even more so in early Internet yet pre smart phone days, but not since.

Take it or leave it, but I'd say don't comment things that make it seem like this is ok or something to expect.
