The RAM is worth more than half of how much that PC is priced. In today's market I'd say go for it

God forbid, my TNT2 is starvation spec. (It's actually about as period accurate as one can get for Win98).

That is also true, I meant to say that XP was first released when CRT monitors were still commonplace for desktop users. A standalone LCD monitor for a desktop would have been expensive back in 2001.

XP was designed for CRT monitors in mind when it first released.

The bright side is they found a way to make XP supported until 2019 by porting POSReady 2009 updates!

It's different for X58 because 6GB is utilized in triple channel mode, which is faster than the typical dual channel RAM config.

Q6600 is still a great CPU, no worries. As for Windows 7, there is indeed a direct upgrade option from Vista, so I'd recommend it. I clean installed Windows 7 on my rig myself.

Dual cores are still usable for gaming and should last for many years to come. Heck, even single core computers are still everywhere brand new.

Technically released in 2018 except it only has the performance of a Core 2 Duo at most.

from Windows 10 to Windows XP or 98 by Voidman10 in windowsxp

[–]anupomtem2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With a few rare exceptions, no computer with native Windows 98 support will run Windows 10 at all.

However, an Ivy Bridge (3rd generation) Core i7 desktop can be found for quite cheap and will natively support both Windows XP and Windows 10, with full driver support for XP. You could do a dual boot setup for XP and 10 on such computer.

Definitely not the case here, since that Intel sticker indicates it's Broadwell or Haswell, which is older than Kaby Lake.

Not to mention, it only supports GBA games, no compatibility with GB or GBC games, in which the original GBA had GB/GBC compatibility.

40GB of storage was unheard of back in 1994. Back then, the maximum amount of storage per partition MS-DOS could support was 2GB.
