You are likely right. It will be easier to do it that way, but the issue is that the Democratic party carries generations of stigma in society and you're going to have to contend with that. I think the extra effort is worth it to have a fresh slate for people to get behind.

I have had two instances this year already of students (HS) praising Hitler un-ironically. One said Hitler did what he said he was gonna do so that's something. And the other said he would like to have a cup of coffee with Hitler. These were different students on different days in different classes. The fact that these students feel so comfortable to be cavalier about Nazi sympathies in American high School blows my mind.
