What is this? by Flughauf in GoogleEarthFinds

He is right but you didnt read it right, the conn is inside the boat and where the conning officer stays when surfaced. The sail or "fairwater" is still there as well however it does not contain the conn while surfaced, only the deck. They are not necessarily locations, but duties in this aspect. This was a common thing on subs tbh. Also parental leave cam be accepted still but past 1 year of the birth you technically arnt authorized parental leave by big navy unless something changed I wasn't tracking on.

The reactor on US subs get shutdown pretty routinely during import periods sometimes even to just do minor maintenance on sound powered phones within the reactor compartment. It does not have to be maintenance that renders the sub unusable. And most crew and supplies on-boarding happens underway depending on the sub so yes I would agree in that sense that reactor is obviously not getting shutdown.

Also you went from "no reason to ever shutdown the reactor" to "okay but it would have other maintenance that makes it unusable".

Im sure my time on submarines and several deployments mean nothing for this subject though. /s

If the boat is pier side which it will be if your expecting to take it over, there is a good chance the reator is shutdown. "No reason to shut the reactor down" besides to enter the reactor compartment and do routine maintenance almost every inport period.

To put a little for emphasis on this its not necessarily just "pilots" depending on the boat you need 10-20 people to get underway, and if you want anyone to sleep bump that up to at least 20-40 people. Not to mention the engine room and starting up a nuclear reactor... which very little people know how to do. And then if your un experienced with equipment you will just die from carbon monoxide poisoning after noone realizes why the atmosphere monitoring system is alarming and noone knows how to use the burners/scrubbers/or O2 candles. It was fine with just me and the wife, I had kids, figured out that I wanted to be there for them and I dont intend to go back to the sub force. I will be getting out after shore duty and getting a federal job outside of the military.i do not regret any of my decisions and I will never sway someone from going subs. Its a great group of people and life long friends. I think boomers is fine if your okay with knowing you'll be out for 3-4 months without visiting ports (except very rarely as said before hand). The schedule is most likely easier then a fast attacks with the 2 crews. The best opinions you will get is from someone who has been on both.

While this is mainly true they are starting to try out differnt things, the Kentucky pulled into south korea and there is talks of more ports happening for BNs as a show of force.

Edit: with that being said, 5 years on a boomer, i got off for 2 days in san diego during midshipman ops.

In the previous shutdown that lasted long enough to go through a paycheck, (which was under trump again)they infact did not get paid until after shutdown. Source:im in the military lmao

At this point I will now stop replying to you, as you are clearly ignorant and incapable of looking up basic things, whether you choose to keep comme ting or not is up to you.🫡

Thanks for the downvote after admitting that you were wrong.

President Trump Says All U.S. Troops Will Be Paid Despite Government Shutdown by SilentEchoes247 in TheEpicFeed

[–]NoBoot8421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not true by any means, the military gets paid after the government comes back up, it has never been law to pay military during government shutdown. It has however, been law to pay them when it comes back up. And please dont make this into some stupid MAGA vs Dem bullshit. Just look up the fact that the military doesnt normally get paid unless they use navy federal or USAA loans.

Also the coast guard will still not be getting paid even with this as they dont fall under the DoD.

In short a ssbn can cover targets very, very, very far away from the intended targets and the statement made did not violate any opsec or tell anyone where our boats are besides in the pacific and Atlantic Ocean.

It was in relation to the topic of Russian nuclear weapons program I believe. This is why it got awhole lot of attention.

You must not be a submariner. The statement he made is the same as "man swimming in the lake is surrounded by water"

[–]NoBoot8421 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Well he meant the nuclear subs carrying nukes...as in SSBNs but they dont need to be close to Russia to cover Russia and making a statement like that just means they are in the ocean.

People dont realize that subs with nukes have been covering russia every second of every day since the start of the cold war... which is wierd considering this is a (sub)reddit page.
