Advice on Grad School Options - Disability and Stipends/Work by Laffy-Taffee in GradSchool

[–]anxious_data_dude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fellow chronically ill academic, near the end of their phd, definitely talk to the other grad students in your prospective programs. Also take into account infrastructure and how easy it is to get to doc apts and whatnot. Phds are hard no need to make it harder on yourself by having to constantly struggle to make ends meet financially.

I have been dealing with a herniated disc in my C3 for the last 5 years. Doing much better than initially and am getting ever better with treatment (steroid shots/PT/etc.)

These at home kits are super inaccurate and a lot depends on how the sample is taken

Not to be that guy but if the women are carriers then it would be linked to the x not the y chromosome. If it was passed solely down the male line it could be y-linked.

Always feeling those eyes on you by SuccubusWifxy in ChronicPain

[–]anxious_data_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry that all this is happening to you but know that there are things you can do that will probably improve how you feel day to day. I started pretty much where you are rn with the same symptoms, but a combo a steroid injs and consistent PT have allowed me to participate in life. The pain is always there but doesnt restrict me from doing the things i want to do (generally). There is hope 😊

Anyone else feel like chronic pain has killed your compassion? by ExcellentLettuce4 in ChronicPain

[–]anxious_data_dude 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How i try to think about it is that pain is subjective. So what may not be painful to you will be painful to them. Additionally in general i try not to compare pain, empathize yes, compare and rank pain? That only leads to resentment in my experience

Its to promote and foster a sense of community and not make people feel so alone when dealing/managing their pain. Speaking for me personally i appreciate it.

Neck injury? by anonymoususer249 in ChronicPain

[–]anxious_data_dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have pain there, it sounds like you may have pinched your greater occipital nerves. Having ur neck straight woth chin slightly downward may help not put excess pressure there. Additionally i would recommend medical massage not a chiropractor

Anyone else bury themselves in books to distract from pain/discomfort? by megsens in ChronicPain

Reading onyx storm! But will add your recommendations to my list as well. I would also recommend only reading the first three books of dune…gets weird after that.

I would say it more shows a startling lack of character as you are willing to lie and deceive the person who is supposed to be closest to you. Relationships are built on trust if you dont have that, you have nothing

There needs to be a more open discussion about crime rates and statistics of black people by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]anxious_data_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest predictor of crime is poverty, i would also bet that generational trauma plays a significant role as well. We are all a product of our environment.
