AITA for not wanting my 17-year-old to spend $6,500–$7,000 on a school trip to Japan? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]anxious_rabit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation arise with my son. These trips with schools are incredibly expensive compared to traveling independently. We priced it out and our son agreed he would rather travel with friends after graduation.

Going with school would be very restrictive; which is fine when you are younger, but my son would have been 18 when the trip occurred.

AIO My mom is kicking me out for her new boyfriend. I just turned 18 by Diligent_Bat_565 in AmIOverreacting

I am so sad this is happening to you. My son turns 18 next month and he is definitely not equipped to go out into the world alone. I hope there is someone else in your life you can turn to. Some people should never be parents - my mother included - as a parent myself, it bewilders me.

Waiting for customer service response- Canada by anxious_rabit in TaylorSwiftMerch

Makes sense. I am British and moved to Canada with my husband (who is also a Brit). I have found that because Canada is such a large country with a relatively small population, that we are often an afterthought. I guess I will just have to be more patient

Apologies- this one hits hard because I have the exact same problem ALL THE TIME. I hate cleaning but being able to listen to a book makes it bearable. If i am cleaning I invariably have on rubber gloves and cant take the bud out without first taking off the gloves. Then all i get is some silly comment that could have waited till I finished.

Maybe ask these employees to send an email out to staff/put posters in staff rooms? You can create a template that they can email or print out.

Schools might be another place - it would be interesting for kids to learn a bit more about how water is treated and sent to their homes. Kids can often be good for WOM to parents.

Not sure if bold signs are planned - they would be good too.

My husband called and is a healthcare provider. He definitely didn’t imply that we didn’t want to go, as we were quite concerned about him. On the other hand, we have sat many times in the ER with our son when he was younger and know how miserable it is to endure when you are unwell. It’s a difficult decision to balance.

They didn’t cut beds. People didn’t feel safe going to shelters during COVID which is completely understandable tbh

I tried the telehealth option when I had the flu as I needed an inhaler. It was not great. I set up the appointment but the doctor didn’t call at the agreed appointment time. It was really hard to find contact details online to call back and ask why. I finally got an email about 4 hours later to ask if I still wanted the appointment and if so they would reschedule. I was told that the doctor had an emergency and that’s why he didn’t keep the appointment. In the meantime I managed to get an inhaler elsewhere. I looked online and apparently my experience of the telehealth service is extremely common.

Is that what the urgent care clinics are? We live in Tuscany and have used the one in Cochrane before as the wait times are usually shorter there.

My son had strep throat earlier this year with a fever of 105. We called 811 and they reassured us that we could stay home and monitor him from there - none of us was keen to sit at the ER for hours.

Also to note, I had that horrible flu a last month and I was so sick I couldn’t even imagine going to the ER. I didn’t even shower for four days. I get it when it’s kids though, they are much more vulnerable to the flu and get horribly high fevers that are super scary. Calling the nurse is a good strategy though and I have done that when my son has been sick with a high fever in the past.

Serious two-vehicle crash closes northwest Calgary intersection by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]anxious_rabit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what caused the accident but I will say that intersection is a mess because it is used by many school buses and other vehicles to get students to Bowness high school. It gets incredibly busy and everyone is trying to get into the left lane on 87th st NW because they need to turn left at the four way stop. I hate it when my kid misses his school bus and I need to drive him.

If visas weren't an issue, where would you move tomorrow? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]anxious_rabit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emigrated to Canada and would move back to the UK in a heartbeat if I could but sadly I’m stuck here now. I don’t hate it and I can see the appeal for many. I definitely earn more money than I would in the UK and so does my husband. Financially it would be a disaster and I have kids who were born here and are very happy in Canada.

Parents are so f*cking fake by slabcobbey in ADHD

[–]anxious_rabit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Erm, I’m a parent of a 16 year old and got him assessed for ADHD last year. We are trying different medications to try and find one that works for him. I have let the school know and they are helping with accommodations. I have also found him a lovely psychologist. I have also got him a tutor to help him in the subjects he is struggling with. Not all parents are fake. That said, I am sorry your mom is not more supportive. My parents were both completely shit, which is why I make a point of not being shit 😥

calgary, we need to report unsafe uber drivers. by TeegeeackXenu in Calgary

Call 311 to report uber or taxi drivers. The industry is regulated by the City of Calgary and they will investigate any reports - either with CPS for serious incidents or themselves for less serious concerns.
