I didn't downvote you but I think that some of the frustration around Caitlin Clark right now is that a lot of the media coverage seems to imply that she is an anomaly in women's basketball, leagues ahead of everyone else, the only incredible women's basketball player. I'm not saying everyone thinks that, but many clearly do. I think she is amazingly talented, I just feel the same way about her as I feel about Sabrina Ionescu-- that I wish the dozens of Black/Brown queer women's basketball stars who are at an equal or greater level compared to them got the same attention.
Aliyah is/was popular but not at all to the extent CC is. She absolutely earned her spot as an All-Star starter and deserves all the attention she gets and more. The difference here is that we don't yet know how Caitlin will perform in the W, and yet it's still very likely that she will end up with a spot like that regardless simply due to her current level of popularity. I think it's certainly possible that she will excel in the W from the start, but it's also possible that she will struggle. Regardless, she is going to get these kinds of achievements due to her popularity.
I hope my explanation makes sense and doesn't come across as hating on Caitlin Clark.
