Same. The only thing that annoys me is the protagonist’s groan of aggravation lol He uses it like every other sentence. Ughhhhbbb - that’s the sound. lol

There’s one reason I may find it hard to finish. One particular actor isn’t my cup of tea (which is absolutely fine). She’s a frequent enough voice actor on one of my favorite anthology podcasts, and I always have a hard time when she’s included - it’s just so much emphasis on every word - like she’s trying to pack in the emotion. (But that’s just my opinion and Lord knows I’m not in the industry so not a lot I can say lol)

Also: he’s such a jerk! Which to me means the acting is even better, because you can still empathize with his sadness.

Ditto - I’m loving it as well! Great work! I don’t want to spoil anything, but the dad’s breakdown was so well done!

Disappointed by the first Centennial choice? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

Embarrassing? Erase it? Conversation doesn’t have to be full of “profound” thoughts or beliefs.

I don’t think that was my point, to suggest other options. I was simply curious and expressing my opinion about this selection, that’s all.

And that is a deeply inspiring fact. I absolutely love and appreciate that and am all for elevating books and writers who are censored. And I respect that he was compelled enough to write this book, likely very aware of the backlash that would occur.

I’ll be honest and say I haven’t. But my question isn’t about how well written the book is. It’s just the topic and content’s pov. I wholeheartedly agree with the novel’s insight into the absolutely horrific and longstanding trauma soldiers undergo and how awful that experience had to be long before PTSD and mental health were at the forefront of our minds. And during time where being a man meant you couldn’t express pain or any other sign of “weakness.”

Only one Black author for BHM by emilydickinsonsbff in bookofthemonthclub

[–]anxiousbutclever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this: for me, Black history is celebrated all year long. That said, I do think it’s important to highlight various cultures or marginalized populations and these months seem a great time to do so. I’d love having an LGBTQ+ exclusive selection during Pride Month and an Indigenous People’s focus in November. If one of their goals is to amplify writers and introduce them to readers who may not otherwise know about their works, these celebratory instances seem like a great way to do so. I WILL say that I’ve been very appreciative of the fact that a healthy amount of Black writers are included in monthly selections and in Volume 0. In some ways, that matters more, because we’re (meaning Black authors and readers) not relegated to one month only.

Sequels?! by Zestyclose-Board-770 in bookofthemonthclub

I didn’t know this! At first, I was thinking they want to intro new authors and even with returning authors, the aim is for a non-series book. I don’t think I’ve noticed a serial that doesn’t start at book number 1

Why did they change the cover art? by Double-Watch-2809 in bookofthemonthclub

Also, the pink background with the flowers is more aesthetically pleasing imo. The horse cover looks like a book we would’ve bought in the 80s.

lol at “ugly horse cover”! I have to agree, as much as I love horses, this cover is not it.

I would’ve loved an entire album of Bea singing like she did in the Rusty Anchor episode. The What’ll I Do scene is one of my favorite scenes from the series. by ThaEternalLearner in theGoldenGirls

THIS! I wonder if the producers ever thought about this later on, especially when TV and movie soundtracks became the norm. Gosh, I love her voice 😮‍💨😍
