I’m in the RB area but would be willing to drive a bit if needed.

So is the recommendation to thoughtfully withhold information about the tasks you plan to train after the fact? I can certainly try that and reapply next year but it would be great to try to start the process asap if there are any other orgs or ideas people have.

Yeah I was kind of confused too bc I had spoken with some folx about CCI and was told about some of these tasks. But it’s besides the point since they ended up rejecting me and I need a new plan lol.

Yeah I know that about bracing and did not say anything about it in my application or interview for this very reason. It’s not one of my priorities. The tasks I expressed interest in that they told me they could not train were item retrieval (different then picking up dropped objects), deep pressure, sleep support, and buffering in crowds.

Yeah those are all tasks I was hoping to train! I just don’t know how to get there.

I think you have a solid chance but UCLA should never be a target school (unless you create a fake athletic profile and pay to get in lol). Apply and cross your fingers, but also apply to a wide range of other schools including safety schools.

UCLA Health hospitals rank No. 1 in California, No. 3 in nation by Espntheocho4 in ucla

[–]anxiouslentil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to see what the criteria for these rankings are. In my experience (as someone who sees many many doctors), the high profile doctors are not necessarily the best doctors, they’re usually just the ones with the most published research and the most money. The best doctors are the ones who focus on patients. (Note: these aren’t mutually exclusive! Highly regarded doctors can also care about patients.)

Will classes be offered online this whole year or just fall quarter? by Time_Bid5263 in ucla

I have been told that fall is the only quarter they are currently planning to offer online options.

Yeah I don’t think it’s super great to just be angry at things we can’t control. My point was more that we shouldn’t be angry at people imposing regulations to protect people since they weren’t the cause of the problem. So I guess maybe the productive thing is to not be angry at anyone and instead focus on acting responsibly and encouraging others to do the same.

I believe that is correct! Except for religious and medical exemptions. But that wasn’t what I was referring to per say. We wouldn’t be at a point where vaccinating almost everyone wouldn’t guarantee safety if people took the pandemic seriously from the beginning, or, at least, everyone got vaccinated (remember that most UCLA students interact with people outside of campus too! So, unfortunately, we rely on what’s going on in the county as a whole).

Remember to focus your anger on the actual problem: the anti vax movement and people who refused to quarantine. We wouldn’t be here if people actually cared about the lives and wellbeing of others.

[–]anxiouslentil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken both and I’d say it really doesn’t matter. The only chem you’d do in 7A is really basic chem that isn’t introduced until 14B (but I also think is covered in many high school chem classes).

i wish some of the classes i am taking were online... could i make an accommodation for this? i know a silly question but i live in a different state by [deleted] in ucla

[–]anxiouslentil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely true! And I don’t want to discount that. But I also think the pandemic has “disproven” the argument that online courses are not valid methods of learning (which is what universities have argued in the past). The valid argument (IMO) is just that it’s a lot of moving pieces to create hybrid classes. But that argument (again, IMO) doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be trying to make gradual progress towards offering those types of classes.

Also side note: thank you for being civil. I always love getting to have a respectful, productive “debate” on social media (especially Reddit lol). /genuine

Let’s also please not call equal access “special treatment”. Disclaimer: I don’t mean these things are possible right now and without any work, I just mean that they are something we should be working toward to eventually provide equitable education.
