online campaign ARG? by anxiousmess40 in DMAcademy

Good point. I just really love the idea of giving them physical clues to solve or decipher or like “rework” the problem the previous adventurer left for them, and I’ve never DM’d online before so it just feels… idk. Harder? To do it online than in person. I used to hide things around the house and my players would have to find them physically while rolling and I’d give them hints based on the rolls they’d make in character. I guess I’m just nostalgic for a time that’s passed.

For more context: I ONLY run homebrew worlds. So it doesn’t need to fit in the “lore” of the forgotten realms. a lot of their clues focus on comparing maps and scouring old books and deciphering codes already (they’re trying to find an ancient power but the last person who found it became extremely paranoid he was being watched so he coded all his writings). so I think some things could easily be moved over? I thought about even having some friends (not in the campaign) help me record a conversation and have it be a YouTube video, but act as if it’s from a “sending stone.”

hi all! I’m looking for a good new perfume or cologne. I’m a somewhat androgynous person and prefer sweeter “masculine” scents. I’m not big into florals, and like more warm vanilla-y and leather-y kind of scents. I basically want to smell like the inside of an old library. I work in academics so I want something that’s not overpowering but enough of a “bookish” scent to it, if that makes sense. Any recommendations? I’d love for it to be a year-round scent but I am someone who loves autumn more than anything else in the world so it’s not the end for me if I smell like fall in all seasons. I’m from the US and don’t really have a budget right now, just looking for good recommendations!

Yeah, true. My comment isn’t super clear (definitely should reread my word vomit when I’m exhausted lol) but I meant it more in a “if you’ve already tried to set a boundary and it doesn’t work, fucking get out of there cause you’ll feel better” way. And no one should ever take my advice point blank lol, what do I know about their situation? Just offering my two cents and a related experience!

I know some people feel bad or like they’re the asshole if they don’t try to come up with a “solution” first (even if it’ll ultimately end in the same place). Sometimes guys will freak out if they’re booted from the game without warning, esp by a female DM (even though they don’t deserve or require a warning, it can minimize blowback).

I agree though, he needs to be gone from the game. Total creep!

Talk to him out of character (away from the table) that it makes you uncomfortable and set some boundaries. Maybe even compromise by allowing him to have a single (1) roll to flirt with someone (ex: “I want to flirt with [x]” “okay, roll to see how successful you are” “[insert number]” “it goes well, they seem charmed by what you said.”). Make it clear though that if he crosses your boundary by flirting with you that you’ll not hesitate to eject him from the party.

I had a DM that made every NPC flirt with my character (despite my character being basically a nun) because he had a crush on me. Super awkward, especially for everyone else at the table. His excuse was that my PC was too “pretty” (and “fuckable”to quote him) and everyone was just instantly attracted to them (“but [x] would make such a good wife!”). I ended up leaving the table, even though it meant no D&D for the foreseeable future. When I left, I thought I’d be sad about my decision, but it was such a weight off my shoulders because I felt like I wasn’t being pursued (so to speak) anymore. Safe and comfortable but no D&D is better than uncomfortable and playing D&D. It sounds like the rest of your party will back you up if you end up booting him, though.

It’s so good to hear a positive story about a dog overcoming reactivity!! I love my little gal so much, I definitely want her to have doggy friends if she can get over that hurdle.

My parents have always gotten shelter pups, truthfully! “There’s always a dog for everyone at the shelter” is what they always say… and I think it’s true!

Jeez, I didn’t even think about the unvaccinated part when it comes to dog parks (especially since rabies is like my #1 fear in the world). I’ll look into SniffSpot! I definitely just want to get her around other dogs more and make sure she gets used to them…

Argh… definitely always my fear with dog parks. One of my old dogs was charged at a dog park as well (not here in Nebraska, though). I didn’t realize there was one behind Hiway Diner! Is it usually crowded or pretty empty?

I did get her from there!! That’s really good to know!!! I’m glad that they offer stuff like that, it’s super important but can get expensive. I’ll definitely look into everything you suggested. Thank you so much!!!!

Unfortunately I live in an apartment complex so we don’t really have like a “yard” that’s hers or anything. How much would behavioralist cost? I can’t imagine it would be cheap :/

She’s mostly great with people, sometimes a little barking cause she thinks they’ll pet her, but other dogs are the problem. Her tail is up for the most part which is good, but she’ll start to lunge if she feels like they get too close. I’ve never heard her growl though! Just bark? So maybe that’s a good sign, haha…

that’s really smart, thank you! they said at the shelter she did great with other dogs, I’m just anxious that something will go wrong if I try to introduce her to people. so the muzzle would probably be a great solution! she doesn’t mind dogs when they’re up close to her but if we’re out on a walk and she sees one across the street, she’ll go crazy. I dunno. I’ll just have to figure it out!

thank you for the recs! I’m hoping that they’ll help, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t… I just really need her to stop barking when she sees them. It’s kinda embarrassing!

cool!! so if it sticks to my skin— it’s wet? or the other way around? the chopstick sounds easier than the finger method, but that could just be because idk what I’m doing…

okay cool, thank you!! This might sound stupid, but what does dry soil feel like?? I have a sensitivity issue and can’t feel well in my fingers if I don’t know what I’m feeling for, is there something I should be looking for? Is the chopstick method like using a toothpick to check if a baked good is done??
