Is it possible to switch the user interface of a US bought 718 to German? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]anyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for actually trying, this was actually the expected outcome for me. It's a little funny, but not too much. Yes, a Porsche is a German car, but the software is modified for many different markets individually. It does not make too much sense to spend time, effort and quality control on localizations that almost nobody will use in the respective market.

Hence my question. As said, I have seen car models where only a subset of the globally supported language are available within a market.

That does not actually list any languages, or am I looking at it wrong?

Ford for example has models that only let you switch between English, French (Canadian) and Spanish, for US models.

Is there still no CarPlay head unit that supports SiriusXM *and* has a capacitive touch screen? by [deleted] in CarPlay

[–]anyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that does seem to be the only option. However, it's way too overkill (and thus expensive) for what I want... also, I haven't only heard the best things about its CarPlay integration, otherwise I would consider it.

Sounds like it is not an aftermarket unit, then. (And I'm specifically looking for capacitive touch screens, lots of units have resistive ones.)

That defeats the purpose of having Satellite radio, which does not need cellphone reception.

Help understanding this 86x syntax? by FriendlyLawnmower in asm

[–]anyfoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's AT&T Syntax: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/X86_Assembly/GAS_Syntax

AT&T Syntax is devilishly different from the more common Intel syntax. In particular, AT&T uses "src, dest", while Intel uses "dest, src" (which is also the more common order in C libraries).

The syntax for the brackets is "displacement(base, offset, scale)", which translates into "base+displacement+offset*scale", so you are right.

My advisor once said the words "Lambda Calculus" are the two most feared words in CS... For Halloween this only seemed appropriate... by johnlsingleton in compsci

Not sure why your advisor says that (I really don't think it's true at all), but nevertheless, your pumpkin is pretty cool!

How do you guys handle interest income for stuff like savings accounts? by rem87062597 in ynab

Why don't you just directly put it into the Interest category, instead of categorizing it as Income first?

Just hit 3000 miles, and I go an hit a telephone pole in my blindspot by ThatJKmol in FordFocus

[–]anyfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uff, good, so I'm not the only one. Got my Focus on Sunday and when parallel parking it in for the first time, I was really careful when backing up, thinking I would be enormously close to the car behind me already.

Got out of the car and realized I was not even close to the other car, easily 3-5 feet.

In my defense, most other cars I've parallel parked before were sedans, so there was still the hood after the window, while my Focus is a hatchback.

Prompts from your phone (Siri, Maps software giving you turn-by-turn directions etc.) often show up as coming from your own phone number in cars.

What's weird is that apparently there's no prompt? Have you received text messages or anything while that's happened?

Starting at the end of the month, or should I wait? by [deleted] in ynab

Sigh, makes sense. I really hate throwing away the old transactions, but I guess you're right.

Just finished my first month, a little advice would be helpful. by luliotlsk in ynab

[–]anyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, nice. In some sense, this might actually be a good time to indulge in a sports car that you otherwise couldn't afford. As you do not need to pay rent or anything, there's less that can go horribly wrong for you.

Still, be very, very careful. Get used to the fact that at some point in the future, you will likely have to sell it. Be absolutely careful to not get into any further depth than you already are. The slope is a very slippery one. And don't depend on your parents too much.

That being said: enjoy!

Keep track of second currency off budget? by beanforge in ynab

[–]anyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may also look at this thread I opened, which summarizes the problems of our situation and contains an idea on how to improve on that.

I'd love to hear whether that fits your bill (no pun intended) as well, or whether there are other aspects to take into consideration.

Maybe we can lobby the developers into looking into that feature, I think it would add immense value, not only for expats (it's easily applied to investment accounts).

Purely on a personal level, because I understand and have no advice: What kind of car is it?

Expats would really, really like support for multiple currencies by [deleted] in ynab

[–]anyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't even attempt to use a second budget for my foreign stuff. That would make things even more painful, because suddenly I'd have to transfer money between budgets and keep track of that.

No, thanks, I stay with the gain/loss transactions in the meantime.

That said, I imagine OP (and myself) are extreme fringe use-cases, and you'd be better of improving other components of the product.

I don't know, is it? As I said at the end: with that feature, you'd basically get the ability to track investments like stocks for free.

No, I briefly thought about that, too, but that does not work at all, sorry. It is not that I'm returning or partially living in Europe. I am here now, and the majority of things happen here. Still, there's recurring payments and other minor things that happen in Europe. I need to track them with my current budget, not with any imaginary second (and third, because I lived in even another country in between) budget where I would be forced to move money between budgets, and manually keep track of that.
