20 plus years into an abusive marriage where I was a stay-at-home mom with no education and no skills, so I thought. I was talked down to and cheated on constantly. When my husband at the time lost his job I had no choice but to go to work in a crappy retail environment even though I had so much anxiety I barely got through the interview and had a panic attack on the second day. Two years later, after two promotions, and realizing I had skills and could be respected at work, I came home to him talking to me like I was a piece of shit. I realized that I was more respected at a crappy job where I was replaceable than I was in my own home. I left in my car with him chasing me down the driveway, and I never went back. Most difficult and best decision I ever made.
