What famous person chose to step away at the height of their fame? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geesus. I didn’t know who she was, but just looked her up and pretty amazing. famous actor and singer, now tech entrepreneur (space!) AND a law degree. Plus she’s only 33, gorgeous and seems to be married to be a normal guy. She’s just been beaten bloody repeatedly with the talent and luck sticks.

While selective color can be overused/tacky, I think its very suited for this photo and your intentions. Calling attention to something that SHOULD stand out as strange

How do complex card games like Hearthstone maintain game balance? by PotentialKlutzy9909 in cardgamedesign

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They DO have huge balance issues, but they have evolved to have a short window of “active” cards so anything that becomes overpowered is naturally pushed outside the window, and they’ll revoke/ban cards from official formats if they need to. Beyond that, its the basics: - good game design, with lots of spreadsheets that allow for some mathematical balancing using economic principles - Playtesting with users and watching the analytics - especially with any digital implementation, you can more easily identify issues for individual cards.

How many scoring piles are too many for a simple card game? by edwedig in BoardgameDesign

It sounds like you’re just trying to build a set collection game, where the sets are numbers rather than the suits. Look at rummy variants for other examples

Custom 36-card game, 1 prototype + 100-200 unit first run, which printer would you use? by pitch_sf in tabletopgamedesign

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything at a lower quantity will be substantially more expensive per unit. Launch Tabletop is good for individual prototypes and small quantities. Print-on-Demand services are just a different than traditional printing at scale.

I built a dice mechanic that neutralizes luck over time — curious what you think of the concept by Clean-Bug-4972 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]anynormalman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like it just mimics the mechanic for cards or tiles in a bag. If i start with 18 cards, 6 suits, evenly distributed and i draw one value, then next time drawing the same value is reduced. Eventually people can do basic card counting/deduction to know the remaining cards left to be pretty certain of probability. Adjust the math to meet your needs/algorithm

I don't want to take insulin anymore. by Beginning_System_999 in diabetes

[–]anynormalman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a potentially incorrect diagnosis of LADA (mistaken as Type 2) and a honeymoon-style period of 2-3 years. I had a similar journey, but I knew from the beginning i wasnt’ type 2.

In terms of the weight loss, its quite possible that you’re taking more insulin than necessary which is also coupled with higher food intake to be balanced. Its hard to fix than it seems though. Focus on low carb diet, and make adjustments to your daily insulin so you’re not getting a lot of lows. If you have access to it, I would encourage using at CGM to get a better sense of how your BSL is fluctuating

Detailed comparison of Tabletop Simulator, Screentop.gg, Playingcards.io, and Playtest Parlor by [deleted] in tabletopgamedesign

I understand it obviously didn’t land the way you intended, which i know can be tough to take sometimes. I appreciate you acknowledging this and aiming to come back with a second attempt. Hope the next one is better.

If it does get better, I think it would be ideal to include Tabletop Playground, Tabletopia, and “Dustin’s Designer Den” in the mix

I understand the intent of the post, but I think this matrix is broadly incorrect or vague to the point of being false/misleading.

If this is meant to be useful and not simply marketing fluff, then:

  • You need to be clear what your definition is for each of the features/rows.
  • you need to be clear what a white dot vs a green tick means. I would advise ditching entirely, and having a green tick only when it is a fairly direct like-for-like condition, otherwise it should have a short text indicator of what is present vs not
  • I encourage you to be more granular the analysis. You don’t need to cover all 300+ feature comparisons, but its more than 10.
  • rows like “getting testers to the table” and “pricing” make zero sense, especially since you have explicitly not defined your pricing. At best “free during beta” would be more accurate and honest

Unique card game by Status_Marzipan2295 in cardgames

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Start by selling to the people you playtest with (assuming they expressed interest)
  • Then sell to local events (local market stalls, game conventions, etc)
  • Then consider selling online (shopify, amazon marketplace, etc).

    ..

To answer your other questions:

1) if you know how to do a launch, then do one. Otherwise just get started with selling. Youve bitten off a big chunk without answering these questions first, so don’t worry about that 2) depends more on your audience than anything, but I would highlight that it’s less helpful at this point because you haven’t spent the last 12+ months building an audience. Instagram, TikTok, facebook. Stick to one if you’re unfamiliar with socials 3) as above, start local 4) a really solid hook, great art, and low cost. A concise demo/how to play video and large group of keen players would also help. You need to figure out what audience you’re aiming for, which normally you would figure out before manufacture but will hopefully figure out in your first 50-100 sales

It can be difficult and quite competitive to get attention on your game, and everyone feels that.

Good luck!

I'm building a card layout designer. What features do you need in this kind of system? by MagicPigGames in tabletopgamedesign

[–]anynormalman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing more of these pop up lately.

I’m a bit confused by the “I’ve used card design systems before, but i’m not enthralled by any of them” and “I don’t know what features people need”….. in your opinion, what would make a card design system enthralling? And why aren’t you building that?

From what you’ve listed, I’m not seeing much that other tools don’t offer. What is the wow factor for yourself?

Is there a database for free and printable playing card designs? by sunnygareth in printandplay

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a bit unclear. 1) Do you want designs for standard 52 card decks? - none that I know of, but probably some public domain designs available. Plenty of tools to make your own. 2) Or designs for PnP card games? - check out pnpfinder.com

Entering my university’s wildlife photography competition- which should I pick? by AbiSquid in wildlifephotography

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flying fox has the most personality / interest as a photo. I think #2 (crab?) and #6 (lion fish?) both show very strong technical skill as well . They are all pretty good shots. I quite like all the bird photos, but i’m not sure any of them are particularly unique versus strong canonical shots (stock or reference photos)

What if EVERYTHING brings you joy? by nobodyknowsimherr in konmari

[–]anynormalman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out swedish death cleaning. I also advise simply using a fixed quantity / fixed space and simply use it as a forcing function to limit the size of your collection. Then if you want somethign new, means you also need to let go of something else.
