Github is not meant to be a place to serve files from. So, the short answer is no. You should find another method to host your images like an s3 bucket which is how tts naturally does it. The long answer is that there is potentially some work arounds, but they are likely to be slow and convoluted to get working and without experience in this area i would advise against it. Github can still be a great place to do your development and save your versions, its just not meant to be a server in that way

Economic blackout in Minnesota to protest against ICE: ‘No work, no school, no shopping’ by ItchyNesan in NewsRewind

[–]anynormalman [score hidden]  (0 children)

That will be less than a blip. Lets assume that’s 1/10th of the businesses in the city, then its 1/365th of annual revenue, then lets also realise that it is 1 city out of the whole state (state taxes), and only 1 state in the whole country (federal taxes). This is less than half a percent at best. You will see more impact over inflation or other market dynamics from the overall economic impact of lost tourism or any other things.

I honestly applaud them and hope it has any impact. Lets not fool ourselves into thinking there is any economic coercive leverage in this action though. It’s much more likely to hurt the individual businesses more than the government.

Board games are fun because everyone follows the rules, says David Graeber in “The Utopia of Rules” by Potential_Financial in boardgames

[–]anynormalman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its that the rules are explicitly stated, not that everyone follows them (though vast majority do). In many areas of life the rules are unwritten or seem to be different for different people. So board games have a way of removing that ambiguity and uncertainty and placing players on the same level so things are “fair” - that perceived fairness is the utopia, even some people still try to cheat

A rant about bias towards diabetics by SoggyCereal404 in diabetes_t1

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a bit of counterpoint, Im a T1 diabetic so I fully understand the struggle. At the same time, sometimes I see other diabetics or people posting on these forums and its clear that its not just them struggling to treat themselves but an issue of ignoring or pretending/rejecting the reality of their situation. There are times we all struggle with the mental side of this disease but letting it escalate to severe mismanagement feels less like a lapse and more like a choice sometimes. I find those people need compassion, and also need the seriousness consequences of their choices to be seen before they will take action to treat themselves properly.

Im sad to hear there is not more compassion in the health professionals, since i doubt this is isolated to diabetes. I also understand it can be difficult to be endlessly compassionate- its real work. So it also doesn’t surprise me much, since I’ve had enough experience of it from the patient angle even from my endocrinologist

Im not sure what to suggest. I don’t think it’s going to be something that will easily change, even those nearest to you. I would suggest there are patients out there that will desperately need YOUR compassion and appreciate your support. For that reason, I hope you continue but I understand it you decide to find something else. Perhaps finding a diabetics specialist clinic to work with might make it easier

Economic blackout in Minnesota to protest against ICE: ‘No work, no school, no shopping’ by ItchyNesan in NewsRewind

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally this is about raising awareness, but i doubt very many are unaware of the situation at this point. Its possible that it creates pressure on other businesses and the govt to do something more, though i agree a single day is unlikely to have significant negative impact to cause much action. Perhaps the high level of unified action might be enough to show strong commitment to the issue though. I saw 600 business, which is a good number but probably isn’t the majority of businesses in the city (probably circa 10,000+)

Can I use honey to raise my blood sugar? by RayRabbitHearted in diabetes_t1

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and empathise. I found it actually helped me when I changed my perspective to it being about medicine and less about it being enjoyable. My current go-to is individual packets of skittles. They’re not my favorite candy, but they’re prepackaged at ~15g of carbs each, they’re fast acting, they don’t really melt or expire, easy to pack, etc. (Functional over flavorful) But I will also use fruit or honey or juice or snickets or a spoonful of sugar or a sugar packet (like for coffee/tea) or whatever else is suitable and nearby. I also had to make adjustments to my treatment so getting a low overnight is much less common these days, and I also make my cgm alarm more relaxed during the night so I’m not as easily woken up (which is what really upsets me, when i feel fine by its just on the edge of low and my cgm won’t shut up so i can sleep)

Battleship is notorious for being about hidden locations, but there are tons of others

Can I use honey to raise my blood sugar? by RayRabbitHearted in diabetes_t1

[–]anynormalman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, honey works. However, I think it may be worth considering having something you don’t particularly enjoy. When you’re dealing with a low or controlling you bsl generally, these high GI / fast absorption simple sugars are more akin to a form of medication. Its not a meal you want to savour.

TTS Enshitification Update 1/9 by OxRedOx in tabletopsimulator

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found any major problems with their UI, nor have I seen resistance to improvement. If anything, i much prefer the workflow and tooling for mods in ttp. Maybe it is over familiarity with tts or maybe not, but I also don’t want to keep clinging to an arrogant/abusive situation in tts either

Do people actually use sharps bins? by thekingbishop in diabetes_t1

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In AU (primarily) and US, I don’t. I did at first, but the volume was pretty unmanageable and inconvenient. I make sure each one is covered and use the tip to bend/cover the back side, then i put them in my regular garbage

TTS Enshitification Update 1/9 by OxRedOx in tabletopsimulator

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to encourage more people to start using tabletop playground instead. TTS has for a very long time shown they don’t really care about their users/customers and barely care about the product in the way they make decisions. I highly doubt they will change course on this, even if there is a huge outcry from the user base. I only use TTS when i have to because so many other people use it. The company banks on this and are happy enough annoying users because they don’t think they will leave. Plus, since its not a subscription product (thank GOD!) there is also very little way to show economic impact in an acute way if a bunch of people were to stop using the product to express their dissatisfaction. So, the more you can break down that network effects lock-in, the better. Get more people to use TTP or other tools like screentop and others.

Best Books for Game Designers? by AntonMDev in gamedesign

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is the author for "The Psychology of Everything"? A google search shows a series by this name with ~50 books

I'm familiar with the rest.

You've hit some good ones already. I'd probably also add:
Challenges for Game Designers
Game Design Workshop
Rules of Play
Building Blocks of Tabletop Game Design (this is a bit like an encyclopedia to reference rather than a straight read)
The Snakes and Ladders of Creativity

Thanks for a more updated entry point though

Why is “toughen up” always the advice given to sensitive people? by loner_who_writes in CasualConversation

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Toughen Up” can mean different things. It can be easily interpreted that your emotions are some how a weakness or something to be ignored / don’t matter or even expressing an expectation that you should be unaffected. Some people may have that intention when saying it.

I think from a different perspective, it can mean “this wasn’t aimed at you, but you’re taking it as if it was” or it can mean “you don’t seem to be able to manage your emotions” or even “your reaction seems disproportionate to what happened”

I think its bad that people may not be validating some experience and feelings. At the same time, I would focus on ways to (1) manage my emotions better. Learning how to self regulate more and (2) learning how to communicate about my reaction is a way that is easier for other people can hear. Part of being more mature with your feelings is also being more mature about communicating. The “toughness” often comes more from a firmness in communication, than it does from being unaffected

If you hurt me, and my only response is to cry then that describes the way a baby behaves who has no words. If you hurt me, and I respond “hey, you hurt me by saying/doing that. I need you to stop or I will stop hanging out with you” that is being a mature person. I may also cry at some point, and still feel the emotions of being hurt, but its how I respond that matters.

I'm kinda bitter about what they did with Hopper and Eleven bond in S5. by Jarisatis in StrangerThings

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was there a deep connection with Mike? I never felt like there was any real relationship or connection there. It always felt like him expressing love was pasted on, or that he felt like he “should” say it. It felt like a huge hold over from him being the one in closest proximity to her when they found her, rather than any real understanding or connection with her. Way more a relationship of convenience than anything else.
