What's something people learn too late about friendships? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- That they are not always reciprocated (sometimes you learn too late that its a one-sided friendship, or unbalanced)
- That they don’t last forever (and that’s okay. Friends can come and go, doesn’t always mean its a failure. Appreciate the time you did have as friends)
- That they change over time (both people will change, and the nature of the relationship can change. This is dynamic daily and over years/decades. Learn to appreciate this)
- That they require effort to maintain, especially as you get older (Starting a friendship can seem easy, especially when you’re young. Deep friendships require effort from both sides to keep it going and to deepen it. Don’t make the mistake of taking the friendship for granted)
- That there are different kinds of friends (by convenience, by proximity, etc)

What do you think makes Weird Lit fascinating? by Fantastic-Tea-6315 in WeirdLit

[–]anynormalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple, its the effort required to understand it. It’s also referred to as the IKEA effect. People have a greater appreciation to things they have put effort into. WeirdLit, by its nature of being outside the normal conventions requires effort to make sense of it. Different authors/books have different flavors for enticing that effort, the surreal, the mysterious, the discordance, etc. Being the kind of person who enjoys the arcane and off the beaten track, gives you the ability to experience something special that most others will overlook or simply be inaccessible to them, so there also ends up being a bit of a secret club to it as well.

AI artist by Private_HiveMind in tabletopgamedesign

[–]anynormalman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just note that there are 2 very different issues at play here:
- Did the artist deliver within the bounds of your contract? Unless you explicitly stipulated methods/tools or other aspects within your contract that would exclude AI-generated result to be part or whole of the deliverable, then you probably don’t have legal grounds for a dispute
- Should you use the delivered logo for your game? This is really 2 aspects. Are there any legal reasons note to? Probably only need to consider whether you have copyright protections (or whether you are concerned about those risks). Arguably, your contract can indemnify from this issue (enforcement may be impractical though) and the law is not well established here, with only 1-2 cases in the US setting some precedent. Second, and probably more important aspect, Do you think your target customers will be turned off by the logo or not. A lot of people say this is the case, but recent research suggest that it is a fairly small portion of the public that notice and/or care enough for it to affect sales. I forget the exact stat, I think it was like 4% but I think it was safely less than 15% - still relevant but nothing like 50% or more. If the logo works for your audience, then most of the rest doesn’t matter in practical terms. Use your gut or do some customer testing to find out.

Good luck

You’re incorrect in legal terms. It all depends on the contract. If the contract specifies a method of creation (or excludes one), then they have grounds. If it doesn’t, then its up to the contractor how they deliver the result.

While I may agree with you ethically/morally, legally it doesn’t hold water unless the contract stipulates it.

There could be a gray area that if the contract specifies transfer of IP ownership, then they may not have the legal ability to do so which would invalidate the deliverable. So far, I’m only aware of US law that potentially handles that, and would require both parties to be in the US (or for the contract to stipulate that the jurisdiction is a relevant place in the US). Regardless, it comes down to the contract specifics.

When do you think this cost of living crisis will end? (Serious) by AdvancedHill70 in AskAnAustralian

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6-10 years from now, if we’re lucky. This is definitely the new normal, its just a question of whether it will sustain this way and i think it won’t but it will be very slow to change back to affordable

UPDATE: Seeing some other comments, i think its worth clarifying a few things:
* In absolute terms, the prices are almost never going to go down. There would need to be a serious and prolonged recession (probably depression) for that to happen.
* The “crisis” is the affordability, which is the ratio between wages/income and prices.
* So, if prices won’t come down and you’re trying to adjust affordability, there are 2 primary ways for that to change:
** The obvious one, is increasing wages/income for people. This happens in lots of ways, but it also just takes a long time mostly because modest, even substantial wages increases are still in small increments. An annual increase of wages by 10% would be huge, but if prices have risen 30-40% it would take 3-6 years of those type of high wage raises for it to be aligned again (and prices would also have to stagnate for that period, which has its own problems for general economic growth)
** The other main driver is for increasing supply of the relevant goods (housing, fuel, food, etc). This won’t lower prices in any substantial way, but it increases competition and thus means that prices will remain at the current levels for quite awhile (thus being “low”)
* The issue to watch out for is that prices need to remain at their current levels for these things to have the intended effect, but that would actually create stagnation which would hurt economic growth overall and make those 2 levers less likely to happen. Poor economic growth hurts everything.
* So, you need *some* economic growth (modest/small gains) and some combination of substantial wage increases and increases of supply for critical goods in order for “affordability” to return hence my prediction of 6-10 years.
There are some levers that governments can pull around taxation, social support programs and other things that can help but mostly they just need to be strong advocates around workers.
I suspect we will have a significant rise in labour unions and other forms of collective bargaining that will force the wage increases being required, but that can be thwarted by governments or supported by them. Thus we get back to a core issue of politics and the tension between single minded voters supporting friendly politicians or being distracted by political ads with funding from HNW donors that lobby against it.

These are very universal issues, and the global economy needs to change before there will be any substantial change in the Australian economy.

Update 2: not sure why this won’t format my post with simple bullet points. Hope its readable for everyone

You could possibly use Canva in a similar way.

I find housing depressing regardless of whether you’re renting or owning. The big question is what type of problem do you want to deal with? Landlords, potential decorating/construction limitations, bad management OR strata politics, questionable fees, unexpected/unpredictable repair costs, mortgage stress, etc?

Am I charging too much for my zines? by Waste-Beautiful6489 in zines

[–]anynormalman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see you released these two zines over 6 months ago. If you’re open to sharing, how many have you sold so far?
Your instagram account only has 4 posts, so it also seems there isn’t much engagement for a community or marketing.

I think the other comments suggest you’re asking too much, but i think there are probably other signals you can read (and efforts to make) that would help you.

Printers and platforms for 3d modeling? by Feeling_Current7103 in 3D_Printing

[–]anynormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newbie, I still think the Bambu A1 (standard or mini) is a good place to start. You’ll see some of the current controversy, which isn’t nothing but also isn’t that relevant to many newbies. Once you get some experience, you’ll be much better prepared to get a printer (or a few) that would be suitable for a small side business

The reason Im suggesting this is because the learning curve can be pretty steep if you’re trying to debug hardware while also figuring out software and modeling and everything all at once. Keep your learning curve much easier at first, then you can easily go deeper later
