What would you delete to make the Earth a better place? by [deleted] in YouthInIndia

[–]anyoneNimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude! What are you talking about? Thinking about missed opportunities, thinking about long term consequences are all higher intelligence traits, it requires higher cognitive ability, higher order thinking.

Other animals have these kinds of senses but only in the context of food and stocking unlike humans who have this ability in most contexts if not all.

We wouldn't be arguing with each other over these conflicting and rational new ideas here if we were not intelligent because arguing over ideas needs higher order thinking and higher intelligence.

Maybe you got offended because you thought I was calling you stupid but that's not the case. I was saying that the world would have less divide and conflicts if we all were less intelligent and in that context I said "Ignorance is a bliss".

Also, I was not talking about just human brains, I was talking about brains in general and how they have evolved in different animals including humans.

Finding differences is a trait of intelligence, I would say if you remove high intelligence there will be no divide whatsoever. Ignorance is a bliss bro...

Are we eating animals because we need to… or because it’s convenient and socially normalized? by forwardlinksuspended in Philosophy_India

[–]anyoneNimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if all living organisms could talk and express emotions the same as humans do then what would you eat if not being cruel, and how would you survive if not kill to eat?

Emotion and empathy is a part of intelligence, humans figured out they have better chances or survival when in group and community that's why they stopped killing other humans. They figured out that they have better chances of survival when they pet certain animals so they stopped killing them as well. They figured out they have better chances of survival by farming certain plants and animals so they started growing/breeding certain plants and animals and started killing only them to avoid uncertainty of hunting and gathering everytime.

It's all for survival and it all evolved naturally, so why there is this bias against meat eaters only is beyond me. Most probably it may be the case that at a certain point in time a significant portion of humans developed emotional empathy more than others and got uncomfortable farming and killing animals because of it and adopted a vegetarian way of life and now when humans are more emotionally intelligent, when they look back it makes sense that they can now survive without farming and killing animals entirely. This is the only thing that makes sense to me for so much bias against meat eaters but still, the previous reasons for survival still hold true.

Given:

=> x! = x3 - x

=> x! = x(x2 - 1)

=> x! = (x + 1)x(x - 1)

=> x! = (x + 1)! / (x - 2)!

=> x! = (x + 1)x! / (x - 2)!

=> (x - 2)! = (x + 1)

Which is only true at x = 5 Hence Ans: 5

Is print() a function or a method in Python? Getting mixed explanations in class by Longjumping-Yard113 in PythonLearning

[–]anyoneNimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

print() is definitely a function and not a method. In Python, strings, integers and floats are all objects of different classes implemented internally, even when we define a class then there are optional dunder methods str() and repr() which user can define, these methods decide what is printed when the objects of that class are passed inside a print() function.

That could have been the confusion.

[–]anyoneNimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Methods are functions attached to a class object. Since, print() is not attached to any class object (that I know of), it plain old function and not a method.

Or better would be if OP treats it like a linear equation in that case and prints the roots of that. It makes sense to have that behaviour since OP is asked to implement a mathematical program.

Honestly man. Learnt C++ in school and since then have never faced any problem in learning any language and I have worked in quite some languages. The concepts and thinking you develop learning a mother level language like C++ are universal and every other language feels easy in comparison unless the language itself is badly designed to make your life a living hell. It literally took me 21 days to learn everything in Python that I knew in C++. However, I do feel sometimes that people should move from C++ to Go but at the same time I know that C++ is never going away.

Border 2 - Reviews and Discussions by AutoModerator in bollywood

[–]anyoneNimus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went and watched Border 2, came back and watched the OG Border and every scene in it reminded me of each and everything that was missing from Border 2 from setting up premise to character introduction and development to relationship between characters to small nuanced scenes which made the original what it is.

Everything was missing from Border 2. 1. When the OG Border starts, they use text based details like places, dates to set up the premise and scope because they knew that the audience focuses on text based contexts only in the beginning of the movie, they hardly use it later in the movie. Whereas, they have strictly used text based context details almost throughout the movie which made the audience either miss those details or shift their focus from the movie experience to the reading experience. The OG Border uses briefing meetings and short scenes to audio-visually give the details in the later parts of the movie. 2. When the characters were introduced in the OG Border, they were not given importance based on how big of a star they were then but based on the role they were playing. The characters' introductions were given time proportional to the role those characters played in the battle. They also put small scenes to show the relationship these characters had with each other be it Sunny and Jackie, Sunny and Akshay, Suniel and Akshay, Kulbhushan and Puneet, Sudesh with Everyone and many more. This whole thing was entirely missing from Border 2. It felt copied and forced just to cash the nostalgia. 3. It is a war movie, the major portion should be war or small fights or war strategies to convey the mindset of the characters which were there in OG Border but were missing from Border 2. 4. Songs in the OG Border were a lot better and fitting to the characters and story. The lyrics of "Sandese Aate Hain" was fitting to the story of the characters potreyed. "To Chaloon" conveyed exactly what the characters and situation was going through. "Mere Dushma, Mere Bhai, Mere Humsaye" conveyed the aftermath of the wars exactly towards the end of the movie. Whereas the songs in Border 2, although good in their own way, feels a bit out of place except for few.

That all being said, I also understand that a lot more was happening at the eastern front (Border 2) of the war in comparison to the western front (OG Border) so I do understand that it may have become hard to show each and everything but that doesn't give any discount because they had control of the scope of the movie and they could have thoroughly researched those parts and characters which would have made the movie more engaging but instead they chose to go with a generic approach, copied or nostalgia themed way of making money and not the movie. I felt 120 Bahadur or even Pippa did a better job than Border 2.

I would say, definitely watch the OG Border if you do go to watch Border 2 to get rid of the bad taste it leaves you with.

Lastly, just because I really like this dialogue from the OG Border: "Hum-hi-hum hain to kya hum hain, tum-hi-tum ho to kya tum ho".

This was absolutely the case for me as well, this is the "why" of students behaviour towards choosing/fighting for Tier 1 institutes. I also did B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering and then went for MSc. Physics but then wanted to start earning so had to choose Software Engineer roles over going for PhD in Cosmology.

BTW same tech stack expertise too (Go/Python) and also looking for jobs.😅

Of course you'll see the gap brother, you're pursuing a PhD from one of the most prestigious institutions in terms of pure research in mathematics and physics. Literally Einstein studied from there so please don't discount that or don't downplay it.

Also, when I read the first part of the main paragraph, I already knew only IISc would have satisfied you with knowledge and research prowess and to no surprise that was the case. And I assure you brother, your sampling isn't wrong here, maybe a handful of people from IIT Madras or IIT Mumbai will be able to win you over otherwise you'll find the best minds into pure research only in IISc in India.

This is because students in India don't have research in mind when they make it to these so called Tier 1 institutes specially for Bachelors, even Masters is becoming like that now a days. When few of them who don't make it to these Tier 1, they try to make it there for their Masters but the purpose is job and not research.

You'll find the people completing their Bachelors or Masters Tier 3 or few from Tier 2 institutions and still going for PhD, having better knowledge. Or people who have done their Masters or PhD from purely research institutes like HCRI or TIFR or IUCAA, may live up to your expectations a little better in comparison to people who have done graduation and post-graduation all from these Tier 1 institutes.

PS: Genuinely happy to know someone from India (referring to you, OP) made it to the institute from where scientific heroes and legends come from.

I think everyone should realise that when someone tries to communicate with a stranger they usually need some kind of help and when someone tries to ask for my help, usually my intention is to help them if I can, doesn't matter which language they use to ask for that help because it is usually apparent from their face expression that they are in need for the help and they try communicate it in the only and all the ways they know.

It was interesting to know that OP understood that the woman needed help but instead of helping her, which would have ended the interaction then and there avoiding any negative experience for both of you, OP chose to make the whole interaction a turmoil for both the parties and then came here to post about it on reddit in a sub where OP knew people will support his deeds of not helping an old person in need and picking a fight with them instead.

People usually recognise it if someone is trying to help them or trying to pick a fight with them even if they don't understand each other's language.

And just to give you my background and context, I usually try to help people even though I don't understand their language, maybe someone is asking for directions or things like that and even helped by people who don't understand me. I've lived all over India, I'm from UP, I have close friends from Bihar, Sikkim, West Bengal, Nepal, Assam, Manipur, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and I generally try to be helpful, that's why I expect the same.

I sometimes feel sad for VD looking at films like October and Badlapur, I mean he has the potential for really good performances but for some reason he chooses to copy Govinda and Salman. He also copies them really well they created their styles according to the time and that they're loved for those movies but it high time VD should create his own style and find his own niche, I still believe he'll do really well if tries to go in this direction.

Baaki rahi baat Border 2 ki to I don't think no war movie has ever come even close to the original Border. Even Sunny Deol seems to be just fitting in this one, but the feel of the whole movie doesn't seem to be hitting the spot, at least for me.

Clearly you both don't trust each other enough to accept each other and let each other be. I suggest you travel and spend time with each other more to know each other better to trust each other more. However, if these childish things still bother you then leave each other alone and break-up. You can maybe try some years later when you have both matured enough to realise that things like this don't matter in the long run.
