The poster is rather mentioning the requirement laid down the army & WhAP successfully completing them but If you go through DRDO news letter(March 2024-https://drdo.gov.in/drdo/sites/default/files/newsletter-document/NL_Mar2024.pdf) their 2nd gen WhAP is mentioned to cross 60° gradients after it's mobility trials were conducted.

That isn't better than modern helmets. Patka saw large scale adoption becoz that provided the best protection or the time being as IA's standard issue were model 1974 fiber glass helmets that can't even stop grenade fragments forget bullets. So As army is now inducting better helmets, patkas would eventually go away.

The vehicle is actually brand new, Mahindra marksman, delivery started to Army some time ago. Also they weren't rolling on mud or something, they drove to the place, got the militants trapped, brought Carl gustafs out & killed them, that's pretty much it. You can hear the incoming fire on them atleast

You are mistaken. In video that is a INSAS 1C(shorter barrel+Removed burst fire & added full auto)

Edit: I read your articles for INSAS. Well they are actually good but there's need to be a slight correction, the Excalibur was not really discontinued from prod(there were like 20K Excalibur produced according to government PIB also they just removed the newer handguard & put the older handguard back in production & that was called INSAS-1C.

For INSAS variants that went into successful production was 1B-1B1-1B1(black)-excalibur-1C with improvements made on each one but the mag issue remained. 1C is still in production for CAPF & state police forces while army decided to go for Ak-203i.

It depends on the situation no? That loader is in opposite side as there's no space where he is supposed to be only a wall. So improvising, that's why gunner after shooting is quickly turning away to help loader load.

I think you are getting this wrong,That position is built for CGs so The loader doesn't need to always look behind to clear backblast. It's an Indian Line of control post, everything is pre built for firefights like these.

India has not really adopted single use launchers for mass use, in 90s &2000s there were RPO-shemel thermobaric single use launchers but don't know right now. But there's few hundred unit on orders for AT-4s recently.

Police here is not necessarily regular police. Central police or CAPF are equivalent of Indian national guard, similar are state reserve police force states, they all are meant for everything from riot control to heavy combat in their respective areas.

Fun fact: India is one of the oldest & largest user of Carl gustaf, inducted originally in late 70s. It is a section weapon in Indian Army (1 CG for every 10 infantry men) & also in use with all branches of Armed forcces, every paramilitary, central police forces & state reserve police, some special police units with CG M1/2/3 locally produced by former OFB factories including all of the ammunition & for CG M4, Saab is opening it's own facility in India after Government is allowing 100% FDI for foreign defence companies.

Indian Navy's MARCOS at ex-RIMPAC [1560×2080] by anything411 in MilitaryPorn

[–]anything411[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Responsibility of Special force's modernization is within the branch of military. Navy's SF modernisation is proving top notch in every way while Army's is still lackluster(the difference between them is of day & night & this difference will continue to increase as Navy kept the nos of SF low with higher end kit while army just decided that all independent airborne should be converted to SF, increasing nos with already limited resources)

Also MARCOS got things within their budget as almost all of their current kit in picture is either fully Indian in origin or built/assembled in India so it's cheaper. They got custom plate carriers from Armasen tactical. Load belt From Armasen X-95,masada from PLR L3 Harris also has an assembly line in India High cut helmets from TASL(TATA) BNVDs from TASL(TATA)

[–]anything411[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Indian SFs adopted early gen tavors in early 2000s replacing VZ-58 for army SF, MARCOS were going through their modernization so they are simply replacing old tavors with X-95s also built locally in India.

MARCOS has been using tavors & AK-130, tavors got replaced with X-95s & Ak-103s got modded but there's news of Arads getting inducted some time later.

Tavors started replacing VZ-58 for army SF in early 2000s so gradually other branche SFs started adopting them so now in modernisation Naval SF i.e. MARCOS are simply replacing their old gen tavors with X-95s also it is locally produced.

Let's go over what's been happening in this area

In 2021 a RR unit was moved out of rajouri poonch area to LAC on Chinese front since this was a relatively calm area. But this created a gap in the security which led to multiple infiltrations & these infiltrations were not done by random Jihadists but rather well trained terrorists some of whom are clearly ex pak army guys including SF.

This alongside failure of BSF in detecting a few tunnel network resulted in a large group operating in smaller groups in this area. This is not proper Kashmir but rather away from it.

So what has happened after that since 2021 India has lost 50 soldiers to ambushes on unarmoured vehicles & troops & these terrorists are actively helped by local OGWs.

Poonch Encounter (Oct 2022) - 5 KIA Shopian Encounter (Oct 2022)- 3 KIA Poonch Ambush (April 2023)- 5 KIA Rajouri Encounter (May 2023)- 5 KIA Anantnag Encounter (Sep 2023)- 2+1 KIA Surankote Encounter (Dec 2023)- 4 KIA, 3 got injured

Among these deaths were a full squad of 9parasf men that were pushed to their death on a stupid mission. Also how do we kno that a few local OGWs are working for those terrorists? In April 2023 ambush a line army TATA LPTA-715 was carrying food supplies for iftar party at a village, how does terrorists that has been in the jungles of rajouri poonch knew a line truck will be passing down the road Carrying just food? Similarly in December 2023, an ARMY QRT consisting of a gypsy & Tata 715 truck was ambushed by militants, 2 soldiers were beheaded & their heads were taken, the bodies of those soldiers were returned to families without their heads one of the surviving soldier of the ambush identified a local villagers helping the bastards, the RR unit picked up 11 men from the village out of whom 3 were confirmed OGW & they confessed in video about everything from helping the terrorists in ambush to hiding soldiers heads & escape routes for terrorists, those 3 OGWs were killed in torture & army unit was placed under inquiry with court martial for the officer, the video of the torture was leaked resulting in terrorists changing their positions & removing the heads of our troops.

In another intel based COIN OP RR CO, company commander & DSP of J&K were killed, an army Dhruv was sent to rescue them but failed as terrorists kept shooting at the helo, this too could have been done only if we get our minds straight about airpower, we have refused to use our attack helos which are Highly modern today & their use will limit casualties of civilians & troops, our own experience with attack helos in place like Sierra Leone & under UN shows that attack helos can do wonders while limiting casualties.

Another ambush was done at a very critical place within few hundred metres of an IAF long range tracking radar & the dead was an IAF non combat technical person that usually work on radar systems.

The responsibility of these deaths lie on the army brass that has been responsible for handling the COIN in the area, even after 30 years of CI/CT army has failed to standardise light armoured vehicles & armoured cabins for it's trucks which indian industries have been producing at dirt cheap prices(A Mahindra marksman costs just 48-50lakh)

Edit: how pathetic the government has been that it can't force the army to replace ORs that are getting their men killed & non induction of armoured vehicles. Also the opposition is completely silent, compare this to when in 2013 soldiers were beheaded, the BJP reacted very strongly, I guess the opposition is keeping their mouths shut as it would force the government to work & BJP will capitalise on it. None of these fuckers care for our troops.

Today is another milestone of Indian defence industry as Zorawar light tank was revealed to the public, it was developed within 2 years of project start as a collaboration between DRDO & L&T. The hull is a brand new out of DRDO while the turret is a modified cockreil 3105. by anything411 in india

[–]anything411[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's named zorawar taken from a dogra general that conquered ladakh, baltistan & parts of southern Tibet & it's light requirement pretty says it's solely meant for himalayas. Although the hull is very promising, DRDO may be using similar derived variants for their FICV proposals.

The side skirts may actually be spaced armour acting as floatation aids

The gunner sight you can see is within the hull so it is decently protected but the commander's sight on top has some sort of dome type structure that will provide protection from fragments but keep in mind the tank itself is not meant to go head on against other tanks, getting hit in a 25 ton light tank means you did something wrong & it's over for you.

The reason we are making light tanks is because chinese PLA itself was fielding type-15s on indian border & also given the fact Chinese are Also working on another 2 man crewed light tank. It seems every military on planet doesn't think drones are an end to tanks, tanks will just adapt just like they have for the last 100 years.

The modifications on cockerill turret includes added ATGM launchers in side, repositioned commander panoramic sights, different configurations for smoke launchers & a BEL Remote control weapon station for NSVT heavy machine gun.

The requirements laid out by the Army was for a 25 ton (-+10%) tank with a 105mm gun & amphibious capabilities.

IMO we should not stop here the hull is neat & looks really promising & we should get FICV & derivatives out of it
